Yeah, I discovered that with DRL's on, the rest of the lights become automatic with the knob set to "0". I just wish there was an easy way for me to wire up a relay to turn on the driving lights when the sensor turns on the main headlights when it get dark!

There are no "driving lights" on your car. Not unless you replaced the fogs with aftermarket ones. :v

OKAY! Fog lights
I actually did a quick search and found that "driving lights" are defined as lights supplemental ONLY to high beams. They shouldn't illuminate w/ low beams. I THINK our "fog lights" turn off when you turn on the high beams.

Simple. Because I said so and I knew it would get you. For further reference on the difference in light pattern may I refer you to your local autoparts store. The boxes will have pics on them for you to look at so that you may better flame me on your next post with your newly gained invaluable knowledge to be passed to the rest. :v

Correction. The knob icons were lit last night when the engine was running. My previous check was done with the engine off (but the ignition was on). So, there. Never even paid any attention before last night whether it was lit or not

that's flat-out retarded if you think about it for like, 5 seconds..

my dealership acknowledged the defective switch, and replaced it under warranty, I just got it back today, and everything lights up now

as stated in my prev post, the switch for the '05 C240 I had for a loaner did NOT light up, and neither did the '05 C230k SS I got this past friday. I'm really praying that this weird kind of QC is limited to the C-class, because it's really making me wonder about spending any money on another benz in the future...

EKY: could you give me some advice as to how I can get my lightswitch fixed? The official word from my Service Department is that MB changed the design of the lightswitch to save some money and the newer switch does not light up in that area. They ordered a new switch and it was the same as mine now, with no backlight in that spot. Should I take it to a different dealer?

I'd do what MB-BOB suggests, and print out this thd, and find a dealership that will actually replace it w/one that has the light.

when I took mine in to have them take a look at it, they ordered the 'correct' part for me, and now it's all G

Mine was replaced with no problems. There is another thread going on with a recommendation to print up the thread and show it to the service advisor. I would do that. ct230k said that there are other '05's at the dealership he goes to that has the light switch illuminated but they still refuse to replace his switch. I told him to call MB directly to complain??

Do you know what the part number for that light switch the dealer ordered? Mine is a '05 C230 SS and it doesn't light up either. Thanks.

Exclamation

whoever got the RIGHT part that has the switch that lights up,
why don't you post the OEM Part # so that everyone knows what the dealer needs to order.

Most dealer parts dept folk you have to a couple of times, until they get it right.

If one type of switch doesn't light up, and one does, are there 2 separate parts ? or are a certain percentage (seemingly high), defective ?

WTF! I just took my car to the dealer and mentioned this problem to him (light switches not lighting up), he said they are not supposed to light up!! I explained to him very clearly..that these are supposed to light up, and he says they are not supposed to and he won't fix it.

WTF?????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just took my car in for the 1k - 3k service.

Should I got to another dealer or ????????????
