Is it possible to have the fog lights turn on automatically along with the low beams?

It's funny, I bought a new switch when I retrofit the folding mirrors, and never thought about it lighting up. You guys got me worried, till I checked the car and saw that it did light up. What a relief!

I don't think that there is any way to get the fogs to come on automatically at all. You've got to do it yourself.

Actually there is. But it requires additional parts and rewiring of the circuitry. And NO, I haven't done it nor will I.

You're assuming that I researched this and have all the wire codes, parts, etc. I don't. But basic EE tells me that you can use a relay, with a 10 A lamp load rating minimum per pole, a 12 VDC coil, splices, diodes and additional wiring to accomplish that. Now how the MB computer will react to a signal that it hasn't commanded to be present..........

Part # for Headlight Switch with Light

I've searched this forum to no end, because I know I have read the acutal part number required to get the '05 Headlight switch dash icons to light. My dealer says this can't be done, the switch doesnt include the led etc. which is true if you order the 05 part #. I plan on bringing them the post with the part number that will correct this design "problem" (and don't get me started on the idiot who decided this was a wise thing to eliminate in the first place!)

Thanks for your help!

My car just finish the first service, I also printed out the post to the service advisor and for what I know he has done, he actually drove a few of the new 05 C classes at night and there is no light , however, he found that the C320 does light up this is getting very strange though...

I gave up the fight a month ago.

Would that not be described in the FM? I give you a hint: P = parking. Have you not tried those settings and then looked at the outside of your car?

More hints... the "<" might mean "Left", and the ">" might mean "Right" Since this switch DOES control exterior lighting, I think you can put 2+2+2 together, even without the manual.

2001 F250 superduty, 2005 C320 4 matic, 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP
In those pics, the switch has a backlight on so you can see the different lighting positions in the dark. On my 2005 c320 4 mmatic, the entire panel is dark, ecept for the fog light indicators which only come on when they are turned on, and the green headlight indicator in the speedometer. Is the backlight supposed to be on when the lights are on? it makes sense because thats the way it is in every make of car.

2005 C230K SS, 6sp
I find it amazing that after reading this post and posting pictures that there would be two different types of lightswitches, one with backlight and one without. Surely a C320 should have an illuminated switch if my completely standard and much cheaper 2005 C230K has an illuminated headlight switch. (yes, it lights up when the headlamps are turned on) This feels like a manufacturer defect. I don't buy the dealer saying, "I've tried all of our other cars and they are exactly the same way." Either they are feeding you a line or all the cars that the dealer has are defective. Case in point: A friend's Silver Arrow passenger seat belt reel locked once seated and belt buckled. He asked the dealer during a service A if there was a way to unlock it. Dealer's reply, "I tried all the other cars on the lot and they are exactly the same way." We read the SL board and found the answer to be a switch on the passenger seat that the dealer didn't mention or didn't know about. We flipped the switch and the seat belt reel worked as it should.

Print the pics and make the dealer own up to the warrantee repair and replace the light switch module, if they feed you a line point to the pictures once again or find another dealer. Bottom line is that you paid for your car and everything that is in it should work as it should work.

Yeah but isn't that the dumbest thing you ever heard of? I always drive at night with only my left side parking light illuminated.

icons of light switch Do Not light up

I have a w203 2005 and the icons of my light switch do not light up as mentioned in a few of the above threads. My local dealer said that these do not light up even after mentioning MB Bobs thread. How can I persuade him that these should light up.

Thanks

2005 C Wagon (No snickering please!)
My 2005 wagon has switch A203 545 10 04, made June 19, 04. The assembly has the headlight switch and exterior mirror positioning joy stick. There is no headlight washer or folding mirror switches. The switch illumninates the joy stick, the mirror select legends, and the lamp symbol in the rotating portion of the headlight switch. It also lights for front and rear fog lights. Inside I found that there is a provision to illuminate the legends for the headlight switch. There is a white plastic light tunnel, some nibs meant to integrate the light, and the legends are translucent. What was missing is the three LED's to light the legends. Each LED requires a current limiting resistor, which was also missing. I guess saving .42 per car was important to some sharp pencil accountant. There were three unseen and functiong LED's on the circuit board for the folding mirror switch and the headlight washer switch.

Looks to me like sometime in 2004, illuminated legends were deleted.

It is a very well designed piece, having dual contacts for each switch (in case one fails), different brightness for each LED so the light appears uniform on the face of the switch assembly, and good tactile feedback from each element.

tyro, I actually LOVE that function. At my house, we have small streets and at night (because of my car color), if I'm parked on the street, that left side parking light helps so much from people bashing into the car.

I actually use it quite often when parking on the street.
