Question Mobil 1 Oil -- How Weighty

Did a search and could not find an answer.

Is there any consensus on which weight of oil to use?

The manual, I believe, says 0-40W or 15-40W but have there been any updates? In the synthetics, 15-40 seems rather heavy.

I know for VW/Audi Turbos I am using Mobil 1 5W-30.

Any updates, opinions or answers?

I wonder if they recommend weightier oil since there are generally longer times between oil changes with the FSS?

Hmmm...BT

You are suppose to use the red cap. I believe its 15-50W. I heard the newer Mobile 1 formula is not that great. They have changed something and new tests show that it breaks down easier.

My dealer told me to use 0W/40 which I found a bit strange, but thats what they use for services, not to say that you'd go wrong with a 15W/50 at least in the summer or a warmish climate.

The book says 0-40W synthetic for my heat range in So. Ca. but for some reason they/dealer put in 15-50W. Someone said the 0-40W wasn't available in the US for a while. Synthetic is SOOOO thin I doubt it thickens much with cold weather. BrabusCClass...are you talking heresay and rumors or fact? Or did you "hear" this from an oil engineer?

I heard this from about 10 different sources, from literature, people in the industry, mechanics, friends, etc. I think the new leader in the Synthetic industry is Castrol. It used to be Mobil 1.
