2002 Lexus IS300 5-speed
the windshield cracked
Tonight driving home from work and notice a long 12" "L" crack started from the edge of the upper right corner. errrr. on top of the other problems. There is no chips or any sign of impact on the windshield.

holy crap!
Did you hit something in the last couple of weeks that you remember? Sometimes a hit at the base could take time and the time speeds up when you have changes in weather. Temp often speeds up the process but its usually cold weather that does it. Did the temp drop where you are recently?

you need to take it back
And blame it on them.... someone hit something and you are just seeing the outcome. perhaps after driving the car, and hitting normal road bumps it made the condition worse.

Originally, I was planning to at least keep the car for a week before I take it back for the other problems (missing driving it). Now with the cracked windshield, I better take it back ASAP.

I had a similar incident happened to me a few months ago. I tried to take it to a dealer and ask for warranty coverage. But they found a chip at the base of the windshield which caused the crack. Spent around $565 to fix it. It was cheaper than the quotes I got from 2nd and 3rd outside vendors.
Take it to a dealer and ask them for warranty coverage. Tell them you read on the forum, pressure/temp difference can cause that, and if they can't find any chip marks on your windshield, you got a good case.

I don't know if it is the same for you out in California, but here a replacement winshield is automatically covered by your insurance company with no deductible, as long as you have comprehensive coverage. I had two chips in my windshield, and I called the glass replacement company. All I had to do was tell them the name of my insurance company, they automatically billed them.
