Depends if you report it to your insurance. Sometimes it's cheaper to replace it yourself than paying your deductible. Prices I've seen is anywhere from $250-$500 to replace the windshield. Good luck!

In MA and RI the glass coverage has no deductable.

My insurance company requires the crack to be larger than a dollar bill, or they'll repair it. Tha is, if a dollar bill can hide the crack, it will be fixed. The fix sucks, though. They use a syringe with a suction cup to draw out the air, then inject sealant. It stops growing, but it is always visible.

If the crack is too small, wait 'till a very cold day, then turn the defroster onto maximum.

Don't forget to require factory glass, not aftermarket. In RI we are allowed factory glass until the vehicle is 3½ years old.

I have Geico here in Florida and its free to replace the windshield. I think it depends on the state. I would call your insurance company and find out. I know how you feel, i had to get my Jetta windshield replaced as well.

Good luck.

Any good windshield glass shop can replace your windshield. It doesn't have to be done by a dealer, and in fact the dealer would probably subcontract it out to the glass shop anyway. In other words, you could probably save some $ and get and equal quality job. Just be sure to specify that you want genuine M-B glass, not aftermarket.

I purchased my C230K SS in January 04. The windshield cracked in February, and it took until June to get it replaced. There were no available Mercedes windshields in the US or Germany, so I had to wait for the manufacture and shipment of a new windshield from Germany. Total cost of replacement was about $600 ($350 for windshield and $250 for labor at Mercedes). Insurance paid all but $50. I decided to get it done at the dealer because of the integrated rain sensor (non Mercedes windshields won't work for that reason). My somewhat new windshield got a chip in it about 3 weeks ago. I got the chip 'repaired' and it looks like crap. Just didn't want another $600 ding on my insurance so soon.

Does your insurance cover replacement for just a chip, unlike the "dollar bill" test?

Mine has not gotten any larger or worse. But, that's not to say yours won't.
