'06 MB C350 Coupe + Sedan Photos (Exterior)

Some early shots of the '06 Mercedes Benz C350 Coupe and Sport Sedan in Europe. Still too early to say if it will make it to the US and Canadian shores but it will be only a few more months at the very least before a large amount of new information is provided on these V6 beauties. More than likely they will hit the US and Canadian shores for the '06 Model Year. Patience.

If so, future MB buyers of an '05 C230 or C320, It would be wise to hold off a few months and wait for the '06 versions just in case these reach our shores. :p

I thought it would be remarkably different but it seems not. I'll still get the C230 Kompressor come March. HP is done a number on my driver's license and points...haha

Please, MB, bring this coupe to N/A!!! With 6-speed and AMG suspension, of course!! That would be a car I would trade mine in a blink. Otherwise this will likely be my last Benz

I don't really see what is different besides the rims. The front fascia seems like the older sport version. ANY more information on this car would be greatly appreciated. I will be ordering one ASAP!

It looks like the CAR NOW... You would think, they would change some exterior designs since they are giving it a bigger engine. lol

Those are European C-class pictures. If I'm not mistaken, the '05 Euro C-class SS did not get the old C32 AMG body kit, but instead US's pre '05 SS body kit, much like the US luxury sedans got here in '05. Correct me if I'm wrong...

The grill on the sedan is the '05 grill for the C180, C200 and C240 this part of the world. I believe its similar in Europe. The '05 C230SS is not available in Singapore. The pre-'05 grill is different, if you look carefully.

I don't understand why some peple are saying don't get the 05 c230, wait for the 06 c350, the price difference between these two cars has to be $10-$15K. Wouldn't you be looking at two different buyers? Am I missing something here?

What is a C280? Where did you get this info? I have decided to wait until the 2006 model to get my C230K SS, if I don't like the new model I can always get a big discount on a 05 C230K then.

2006 C Class Information Article

2006 C Class Information Article

With two new six-cylinder engines which will arrive in spring 2005, the popular Mercedes-Benz C-Class will pull even further ahead on agility, dynamism and driving excitement, while at the same time setting new standards on fuel economy and environmental compatibility, coupled with exceptional ride quality. The V6 C 320 CDI and V6 C 350 develop more power and more torque than any other engines in this vehicle class. Simul-taneously, the C-Class will also welcome the "Sport Edition" special model, in which the dynamic character of the C-Class will be reflected in an even sportier appearance.

The C-Class diesel engine line-up will soon be headed by the new 165 kW/224 hp V6 power plant. This new engine offers 32 per cent more rated power than the in-line five-cylinder unit (125 kW/170 hp) it is replacing. In combination with the optional 7G-TRONIC seven-speed automatic transmission, which has never before been offered in the C-Class, it will provide an increase of over 27 per cent in maximum torque over the outgoing model. The rated torque of 510 newton me-tres, a new peak for a six-cylinder diesel engine, comes on stream at just 1600 rpm and remains constant right through to 2800 rpm, resulting in a 0 - 100 km/h acceleration time of just 6.9 seconds for the C 320 CDI (Saloon) and a mid-range acceleration time from 60 to 120 km/h of 6.2 seconds. In this segment too there-fore, dynamic diesel technology is on the advance.

And despite the significant performance hike, the six-cylinder saloon is no thirstier than its already highly fuel-efficient predecessor, with fuel consumption of just 7.3 litres to 7.6 litres per 100 km (NEDC combined fuel consumption with 7G-TRONIC).

The emissions performance of the new CDI engine is equally startling. A state-of-the-art fuel injection system and precise combustion control result in full compliance with the stringent EU 4 emissions standards without resorting to a diesel particulate filter. A DPF is, however, supplied as standard for the C 320 CDI in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland, bringing a further significant reduction in particulate emissions.

The choice of materials, the engineering and the fuel injection system of the new diesel engine all reflect the latest state of the art. Mercedes-Benz has developed an aluminium crankcase with cast-in grey iron cylinder liners which is the first in the world for a diesel engine in this displacement and output class and which brings major weight savings. As a result, the overall weight of the new V6 is only approx. 208 kilograms (DIN), which is only very slightly heavier than the previ-ous five-cylinder engine. The power-to-weight ratio has increased by more than 20 per cent to 0.79 kW/kg – a big factor in the outstanding agility offered by the new diesel engine.

Diesel engineering: common-rail injection with piezo-electric injectors

With their third-generation CDI technology, the Mercedes engineers have refined the common-rail direct injection system, achieving further progress on fuel consumption, exhaust emissions and combustion noise. Newly developed piezo-electric injectors operate much faster and more precisely than the previous solenoid valves, and provide an even more finely controlled fuel supply to the cylinders. This allows the fuel injection to be even more closely matched to the current engine load and engine speed, with five injections per power stroke and maximum pressures of 1600 bar.

An electrically controlled intake port shut-off system alters the swirling motion of the intake air as it enters the cylinders, resulting in more complete combustion for further reduced fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. The VNT turbo-charger (variable nozzle turbine) with electrically actuated guide vanes, exhaust gas recirculation with control valve, and intake air restriction are further notable features of the new six-cylinder CDI unit.

C 350: most powerful V6 petrol engine in its class

Another new arrival in spring 2005 will be the C 350. A powerful six-cylinder petrol engine will immediately propel the Saloon, Estate and Sports Coupé versions of this model to the top of their class. Maximum power of 200 kW/272 hp and maximum torque of 350 newton metres give this Mercedes engine a clear edge over all comparable V6 models.

The new C 350 delivers approximately 13 per cent more rated torque and 25 per cent more rated power than the previous six-cylinder model in the C-Class. This gives the Saloon and Estate models' performance even more of a sports car flavour. With the optional 7G-TRONIC transmission, the 0 - 100 km/h time is just 6.4 seconds (previous model: 7.7 s), with a 60 to 120 km/h sprint time of 6.1 seconds (Saloon figures), on the way to a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited).

With an NEDC combined consumption of 9.5 to 9.8 litres per 100 km (Saloon), the new six-cylinder C-Class model nevertheless outshines the outgoing C 320 model (10.9 l/100 km) on fuel economy with an improvement of more than 12 per cent, despite the increased performance. With the 7G-TRONIC seven-speed automatic transmission (optional), fuel consumption stands at 9.7 to 10.0 litres per 100 km, an improvement of approximately five per cent over the previous model.

Technology package: first V6 with four variable-timing camshafts

The impressive power and torque of the new V6 is based on a wide-ranging technology package. Amongst other things, this includes variable camshaft adjustment for both the inlet and the exhaust valves. This technology, which Mercedes-Benz is using in a V6 engine for the first time, allows the opening and closing of the 24 valves to be optimally adapted to any driving situation, for significantly more efficient gas exchange and reduced energy losses. This in turn results in improved fuel efficiency under partial load.

The length of the magnesium intake manifolds can be varied in accordance with the engine speed in order to maximise torque and output. Approximately 87 per cent of the new V6's maximum torque of 350 newton metres is already on call at 1500 rpm. The crankcase and cylinder heads are made of aluminium.

The intake ports are equipped with "tumble flaps", which improve the induction and combustion of the fuel-air mixture. These flaps open out in part-load operation and increase turbulence in the cylinders. At higher engine loads, the flaps are fully retracted into the intake manifold. Depending on the engine speed, this technology achieves a fuel saving of up to 0.2 litres per 100 kilometres while also improving smoothness of operation.

The combination of continuously variable camshaft adjustment, tumble flaps in the inlet ports, internal exhaust gas recirculation, secondary air injection and various other measures reduces engine-out emissions on the new C 350 to a very low level. These internal engine design measures, in combination with a high-performance emissions control system with two close-coupled catalytic converters, result in full compliance with the EU 4 emissions standards.

Special model: "Sport Edition" Saloon, Estate and Sports Coupé

"Sport Edition" – the name can be taken literally – is a new special-edition C-Class model which will be available from March 2005 for the Saloon, Estate and Sports Coupé. It will be offered in two versions: an attractively priced base version and the "Sport Edition+" version. The Sport Edition's appearance immediately draws attention to the dynamic and agile character of the C-Class. Among the various striking features which help to create this effect are the AMG bodystyling package with modified front and rear aprons and side skirts ("Sport Edition+"), 17-inch six-spoke alloy wheels, 225/45 R 17 (front) and 245/40 R 17 (rear) wide-base tyres, sports suspen-sion ("Sport Edition+") and bi-xenon headlamps.
The radiator grille of the Saloon and Estate models has an eye-catching silver paint finish, while the Sports Coupés feature an EVOLUTION grille. Other features include door handles painted in vehicle colour, chromed tailpipes and side rub strips bearing the "Sport Edition" logo.

In the interior too, there's no overlooking the extra sporty touches like the standard-fitted three-spoke leather steering wheel with thumbrests, the ergonomically shaped, silver-coloured gearshift knob, the silver-edged floor mats and the pedals with black rubber studs. Special-design aluminium trim parts in the centre console and more sportily styled silver instrument dials are further distinguishing features. The extensive standard specification of the special-edition model also includes the Audio 20 CD radio.

For all C-Class engine versions, the "Sport Edition" model is offered with either iridium silver or diamond black paintwork, and a black interior.

Only the C7 or "Evolution" Coupes get the crossdrilled grille. Since all US models were C7 at the end, it appeared to us as a "standard" item. I love the grossdrilled grille, but think it would look even better painted a darker silver, like the old SLK's was.
