Explain classes?
Can someone explain the classes for MB cars. Does the K mean anything in CLK? What about the L, etc? I'm not looking for someone to put them in order from best to worst or cheapest to most expensive. I want to know if the letters describe the car or its equipment.
thanks!

I think (originally) the L is an abbrevation for "Leicht" which would mean "light". Today it don't make sence at all, since MBs not can be called light-weight cars... I actually think the SL is an abbrevation of "Sehr Leicht", wich would translate to "Very Light"...
Might be way off on this, but this is what I've heard years ago.

In the olden days, the suffix "S" meant a more luxuriously equipped version of a car (e.g. 220 S as compared to the plain 220).
"E" used to denote fuel injection "einspritzung", when it was a high-performance option.
"L" = "lang" = long body
...as for the modern nomenclature, they have completely lost any meaning so far as I can tell, these days. Shame.

The classes as everyone said, used to denote a key feature or vehicle type, now they are just monikers
