Reset of FSS

Now before I get the newbie treatment with instructions on how to search, let me say I have already searched and the answer to my question is not apparent.

I recently had a problem with my cruise control. Part of the "fixin' " process caused the dealer to replace my instrument cluster. This occurred after my first service A for my 02 C320. I have just come up on my first service B but the MFD reported a need for service A again. The dealer says there is no way to correct the inaccurate reporting and that it is OK because both service intervals are 10K miles.

The Question: Why can't the FSS just be reset until the correct service is indicated (in this case Service A will be due) or isn't that the way this works? Is there a way to correct this with SDS if a manual reset will not correct the display? Why do some dealers and techs accept mediocrity?

You can reset it yourself. It is in the operator's manual.

Yes, I read that. The question is, will this also roll over the service cycle with repetative resets at ther same mileage?

The dealer doesn't seem to think so. Their position is it is something I have to live with.

if you reset it yourself i would think it would say next interval is going to be a "B" sevice if it says "A" now.

I've read my manual from front to back. I did not see anything about how to reset the computer. I have an '01. How do you reset the Service Message? Would really appreciate the proceedure.

I tried the reset (door open to MFD screen that displays FSS info, holding down the reset button on IC until it asks if I want to reset) but it only resets the mileage. So I am still one service interval off.

You have to have the key in the ignition and turned to position 2 ( If I remember correctly) It's the position just before the car starts. Then go to the FSS screen - Hold down the reset button until it ask's if you want to reset it. Then push the reset buton again.

And Yes it does cycle from A service to B service, then repeats every reset.

You are right. I forgot to type that little fact about the key. I will try again but the first time I did it only the mileage changed. I still have Service B as the next cycle. I will try again.

Thanks for listening and helping. I will let you know.

I would hope so. But it is not via the reset sequence on the mfd.

Just got the car back from the dealer. The FSS is now reset. Must be that they finally discovered it must be done via SDS.

Other issuses fixed: MFD warnings for seat belts reactivated and a reprograming of electronic fuel control. My car had a non-US serial number controller with european logic. instead of replacing the 1500.00 part they douwnloaded a new program.

Amazingly after all of this they still could not turn on the Bose splash screen for COMAND.
