The c240 is not a great vehicle. I feel the only benefit of the C240 is that is is a 4Matic. It is the slowest, lowest horsepower and really not worth purchasing. Waiting for an '06 C240 is like waiting for nothing. If you really want the outkast of the C Classes, you can go ahead and purchase the '05 C240 now.

The C240 is the question mark car of the C Class. It has higher badging than the C230, 2.6 litre V-6 Engine, yet a horrible output of 168 HP compared to the C230 and its 1.8 litre supercharged inline 4 with 189 HP. The car is slow with horrible accleration. It is truly the outkast of the C Class. If 4Matic is your style, go with the C320 4Matic Sedan.

Although I would agree that the C240 is on the low end for HP, I disagree that it is slow, and I disagree that it has "horrible acceleration". In all of the C240s I have driven, I have been very satisfied with both of these aspects. If my choice for a near luxury sedan was between a C230 and a C240, I think I would choose the C240 every time. If acceleration off the line is your main motivator in buying, then you would probably choose the C230. But if this is truly your main motivator, then I guess I would challenge why you would pick this model of car in the first place.

I think the real question mark of the C Class has been the Coupe.

i personally dont think the c240 is a horrible... or an outcast car.... the 240 is not a race car... so no, your not going to chase down an AMG or an M... it has enough power under the hood to get the job done... i personally think its quick..... for 36k (+/-).. i would buy a c class sedan any day before i would dump that same amount of money into a sedan made by bwm.... toyota.. nissian.. ford.... etc...

other than little minor things that has happened to my c240... id say im overall pleased.... every car now adays is going to have something minor with it that can be fixed easily......

explore all your options... test drive several cars... im sure youll be pleased with the c class in comparison to other cars for the same price....

good luck-

Well, for the price, the 230 is a much better option than the 240, so even in the same dealership, it's a dumb purchase. Hope that's not offensive to any 240 owners.

I see no justification for keeping the C240 around anymore, honestly. Rev - I had my normal C240 4matic loaner yesterday, and I do find the acceleration horrible, especially at the price point that it's at.

As far as the coupe being a question mark, that's really only a US phenomenon, and only in red states.

240 vs. Coupe

When I get my 320 fixed (far too many times) I've been given both Coupes and 240 loaners. I prefer the power characterisitics of the 240....also less vibration and quieter...over the Coupe. I agree with revstriker...if you want power why even buy a Coupe or 240?

well... i agree with you there... if i were to purchase a c class right now... id probably buy the 230...... but for me, back in 2002.... i did not have the option to purchase a 230 sedan... it wasnt made.....

Hmm i must say that with my c240 i have been able to keep up with other c230ss off a stoplight. On the top end I can totally feel the difference between my c240 and a c230 k coupe (loaner). Acceleration past 80 sucks, maybe due to gearing on the c230. Not sure if this is the same with the C230 Ss.

As for the c240 4matic, obviously it will be slower than the c230 sedan without 4matic. You're comparing an AWD car to a 2wheel drive version.

Over all the c240 is more for the driver looking for comfort oh and

The 2wd version sucks, too. Come on - more expensive, and fewer hp? There really is no comparison, unless you didn't have one, like Charles didn't.

I guess it all depends on what you're looking for in a car. None of the C class cars, except the AMG models, really excite me as far as acceleration goes. But then again, I would never buy a C class car if this was a big issue for me. A much larger issue for me is the comfort, ride, and handling of the car. As for the price point, it could be lower. But the lower priced models will always outsell the higher priced models. I bet in the US, MB sells more C240 sedans than C320s.

I still think I would take a C240 over a C230, even at the current price difference. The 6 cylinder just meets my needs better than the 4. If sportiness and acceleration were key buying factors for me, then I would probably consider some other cars before buying a C230.

Amen If I wanted speed, then I would get an AMG, otherwise I am more than happy with my C240 and the V6 engine
