just read that little booklet if you have the older garage open. If you have the new rolling code one you have to flip through the thick manual.
for the rolling code, there's a buttom on the garage opener itself (the motor base). You have to follow the same step to clear all the button and then climb up to the opener to press the button and then get back in the car and press the button you want to use couple time. Don't remember exactly how, but I did it on mine. It's all in the main manual.

scramble code are those new garage lift like the brand call Genie (sp??) or something.
Instructions from MBUSA Owners Online:
Turn your key to the ON position, but do not start the vehicle.
Step 2
To program the system for the first time, press and hold the two outer buttons of the in-vehicle Mercedes garage door opener (A and C). Release the buttons only when the indicator light begins to flash. This should take approximately 20 seconds. (If you are programming the more than one garage door opener buttons do not perform this step — proceed to step 3.)
Step 3
Hold your hand-held remote control (E) approximately 2 to 5 inches away from the in-vehicle remote control buttons (A, B, C), keeping the indicator lamp (D) in view.
Step 4
Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold one of the in-vehicle buttons you wish to program (A or B or C), as well as the hand-held transmitter button (E). If the in-vehicle button has not previously been programmed, the indicator lamp (D) will begin to flash slowly. DO NOT release the buttons until the indicator lamp changes from a slow to a rapid flash. If the button has already been programmed, the indicator lamp will only start flashing after 20 seconds. To erase any previous programming start from Step 2.
Step 5
Press and hold the programmed button (A, B or C), and watch the indicator lamp (D). If the indicator lamp is solid, the button is programmed and your garage door should open when the programmed button is pressed and released.
If the indicator lamp blinks rapidly for 2 seconds and then turns solid, this means you have a rolling code system. Rolling code is a security feature that helps prevent transmitter cloning. If your garage door opener uses rolling code, please proceed with the instructions below.
Rolling code programming
- A second person may make the following steps quicker and easier. Please use a ladder or other device to reach tall heights, and never stand on your vehicle to perform the next steps.
To program a garage door opener that uses rolling code, follow these instructions after completing Steps 1 through 5.
Step 6
Locate the "training" button on the garage door opener's motor head unit. Depending on the manufacturer of your garage door opener, the training button may also be called the "smart" or "learn" button.
Press the "training" button. After pressing the button you have 30 seconds to start Step 7.
Step 7
Firmly press the programmed in-vehicle garage door opener button (A, B or C), hold for two seconds and release. Repeat the press/hold/release sequence up to three times to complete the programming.
If you have difficulty programming your in-vehicle garage door opener buttons, please refer to your owner’s manual or phone the Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES (1-800-367-6372).
As for your situation, I looked at your reply and I'm not quite sure what the problem is. Did you program the e500 with the remote or the rolling code instructions? Either way, I can't really help you on that one. I have no clue why it would work for one car and not for another (unless maybe the sensor is bad in your C?) You should try calling the helpline. They actually helped me find the programming button on my garage motor (I couldn't find it at first)!
1.) If you have a rolling code garage opener you MUST program the remote to the car first. After you get that done you have to hit the button on your garage door motor (Mines was a red button under the light cover). Then run back to the car and press the button you want program 3 times at 2 seconds intervals. The door should work on the fourth try.
2.) MOST IMPORTANT STEP!!! Make sure your batteries in your garage door remote are good. I was able to open and close my door with my remote without any problems, but the batteries were to weak to program the car! Took me 6 hours to diagnose this problem. Please check this if you can't get the remote to make the led blink rapidly.
I used the directions at the top of this thread to program my car garage door opener. My problem was the battiers in my remote.
This may be a stupid question... but...:
As I dont have the garage door opener installed - is there any way to retrofit it?
Costs involved?
Difficulty?
Thanks
