COMAND issue.. Got an A463 COMAND :/

I got shafted! I ebayed (mistake) a COMAND 2.0 unit which was advertised to be for the C-class. I sent the seller an e-mail to verify what kind it was and was told it was an A203 COMAND. Well, I got it today and the sticker on the COMAND says A463 820 15 89. While it's European (which I wanted), I've determined this is out of a G-Class which from what I've been told will complicate the installation somewhat.

Basically, I'm not sure how exactly this affects installation. What additional work must be done to retrofit this COMAND into my 2002 C230 Coupe? I'm not afraid to do extra work but I just need to know what -- if anything additional -- need be done to make it work.

Be glad you got it at all. Ebay had a massive fraud problem with COMAND units.

Would be nice if you tried to do a search on "463 COMAND" - you will find that you need to insert a wire into the car from the COMAND to the front fuse box under the hood. So stop whining and have a look.

Took me about 30 min with the right Torx tools.

Paid $700 for it -- can't say that's a terrible deal. It bench tests OK, so I know the unit is good.

rockintunes: I think you're thinking of a different unit. Face and depth dimensions between the Audio-30/pocket space and the A463 820 15 89 seem to match up ok. Even if I do have to modify the dash that's not a terrible thing, though.

From what I understand I need to get a new gyroscope piece. I've got the gray one, I'm told I need the yellow one. Other than that, it's a matter of running the VSS from the ABS module through the firewall into the COMAND harness. Am I missing anything?

I'm not whining. Just frustrated and curious -- and rightfully so

Seriously I looked on Ebay and saw sellers selling comand with the following descriptions:

Title: MERCEDES BENZ C CLK G DVD COMAND NAVIGATION SYS GPS
Description:
-GENUINE MERCEDES BENZ CD 3.5 COMAND NAVIGATION SYSTEM
(look at the pic...it says COMAND 2.0....tho I am not too familiar with comand is there a 3.5 version?...also didnt the title says its a DVD comand? Why then it says its a "CD 3.5"??

So confused....I would really wanna know what exactly it is.

Is this the same seller you bought from?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=38653

I hope he really knows what he is selling....

No, that's not him. I actually saw some of his auctions. Asked him questions about the COMANDs he was selling and never got a response...

The guy I bought mine from has heard what I thought about his auction. Heh.

You just have to tap the speed pulse from the front fusebox. Not hard.

It will work, just takes a little more effort. Getting it for $700 is still a steal.

Out of curiousity, can anyone help me find the part number for the yellow 25-degree gyroscope lock? I've contacted two MB dealerships and they've been unable to find a part number for it. They know the piece I'm talking about, they just can't seem to figure out how to order one. I know a few people here have gotten their hands on them, just wondering how. Thanks.

You really need to get a handle on using that search function button! You can probably get your answers a lot faster that way.

You can just use it with the gyroscope out of whack a bit. It doesn't make too much difference.

The gyroscope is really useful in cars with hardware speed pulse. When using speed over CANBUS in a W203, the gyroscope doesn't do too much. In either case, without the proper angle and with a speed pulse, your car will just have a somewhat "jerky" feel to the movement on the screen, sort of like a W203 COMAND.
