Is the C230K underpower? Engine struggling at high revs?

The E could feel and be quicker due to its gearing! I wonder what rear gears the E200 has compared to the C230K. Plus do you have Auto Trannie's in each?

Anybody ever consider the suspension? The E class has a softer suspension than the C, especially the C230 SS. When you nail it, the rear will squat more in the E than the C giving off the impression of G's. Simple test is get an acceleromter, they cost like $200 and measure acceleration, HP, Tourqe, 1/4mile times, moniter G-forces, and a few others, one of them even has shift lights! And they really do work, I have one, havent used it in this car yet, but my Jeep measured 0-60 in 7.78s, 1/4 mile at 16.0s@88.7mph. HP measured was 210 (screwed up the frontal area or drag coefficient or something, but still, pretty damn close, stock is 220.) When the summer comes Im gonna hook it up the the C230, and my dads Cobra. Hell, I want to even try in on my 12' RIB this summer!

You said it was a C230. If it is a C230, yes its the M111, and at 197HP, youre not going to beat it. If its a C200, from 02, then that's a smaller motor, and may not make as much HP as an M271 powered E200.

Perhaps. But you have to look at where on the band the torque maxes out. At lower RPMs (when you're first accelerating), if the 200 has more torque, here, it may feel like it's accelerating faster.

Again, just a thought.

As I started to read this thread I was hoping someone would finally say this.

The 2002 C230, 200, 180 have a M111 motor. My understanding is they are all set to different levels of tune. If the E has the 271, it is a 1.8l motor with crankshaft damperens to "smooth" out the feel of the motor.

Feel is the worst thing to go by in any car. My friend 1.6l '91 Honda feels fast as hell being so close to the ground and whipping around turns. It's only pushing 86HP or so. It "feels" quicker than my coupe, but head to head it's horrifically slow.

You need to pull together data on the two cars, otherwise, all we can do is speculate.

Cars- C200K/ E200k
Engine- M111/ M271
Trans- Manny/ Auto
Final Drive- 3.67/ 3.23

But first you need two dyno sheets or G-Tech print outs- Period.

All will make differences

I totaly agree!

After I got my 05 230 my woman drove it and said that it feels very slow because it's 'too' smooth. I didn't notice or care at the time cause I had a new toy and was in la-la land. Granted she's right, but then again she is also used to driving her 65 Galaxy V8 monster and the tricked out 86 Jetta Coupe 'GoCart' where you can definately 'feel' the acceleration (mainly due to old-school technologys)

Moral of the story, if you don't like your car... sell it or mod it. Both could cost the same considering what you get or do.

Cheers.

I must have accidentally left out the "K". My bad. I was comparing my current 2004 C230K (which I'm sure has the m271 engine) to a 2002 C200K. Does the C200K have the m111 or m271 engine under its hood?

By the way, my 2003 E200K has a 1.8L (m271) engine.

I'm pretty sure the 2002 is a variant of the M111, but with only 2.0L displacement. Your 2004 C230 should handily whip either car.

The 2002 has a 1.8L engine though. That much I'm sure. Perhaps it's different in the US? Either way, I've got a friend who owns one and along with my E200K, we're gonna do a sprint run this weekend. Will post the results.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I've checked that thread - finally. I did a search initially on this topic but couldn't find anything.

The M271 may have been in your 2002. I just remembered that in Europe they started floating into the production mix in 02. Here in the US, the M271 was strictly 03 and beyond.

Have fun.

If your car is slow at those speeds I would see the dealer! Mine has the best power there. Drop it to 4th at 60-70 and it flies to 100! Before I redline even and pulls very well. The same as the C320's and E320's I have driven. No slouch when it comes to highway cruising. Even leaving it in 6th and on a steep hill I can accelerate very well. On a flat at 80 in 6th gear I am easily at 100 within a few seconds time. You want slow try my 190E up a hill at 75! It accelerates but I could count the time with an Egg Timer and slowly watch the needle on the speedo as it crawls up a hair at a time....

Even with the K23 pulley, which make a unbelievable difference over stock, on the straights the turbo porsche, AMG, and M-Coupe would just pull away from me. The only surprise was when this ugly yellow integra just left me standing still. The owner owns a Hondata dealer and had a K20 swap with a Jackson Racing supercharger...

The fastest was the C32, on the front straight I just watched him watch away like you wouldn't believe. I exited the prior turn a lot faster, got on his bumper and that's all it lasted, we straighted out and he just started to go bye-bye until the next braking zone where I caught him again.

But- in regards to this thread, my car is the same as Jamies, above 3k in any gear it just pulls like heck. A lot better in the top end than WRX, R32, and RSX-S for sure to name a few.

All MB Fours have Crank dampeners. Youre thinking of the balance shafts in the M271.

Tom - always wanted to ask: what fuel and ignition settings do you have? Have you had a chance to play with them and see the difference?

Thanks!

Thanks for the correction. Couldn't think of the proper term and had a fit of dyslexia on the "*erens"

I haven't bothered due to other peoples results. I am at the stock setting.
