Any of you feel that your C230K is underpower? The G-force is pretty negligible when I accelerate from a standstill, and the engine begins to sound rough (as if it's struggling and overwoking) past 5,000 RPM.
I have an E200K that's supposed to have only 163 bhp but the pull of the car while accelerating is a lot more apparent than the C230K. Anyone ever driven an E200K or even a C200K? I know they don't make those models in the US.

People ask some really odd questions...
Small engine + heavy car = slow .....need I say more ?

So to answer your question, yes, I do mean acceleration, and no, I also meant G-forces.

In addition, in regards to your G-force being the same whether you're in a car or sitting on the toilet, consider this:
If you hit a concrete wall in a road car traveling at 120mph, the retardation force would be near 40 G. What kind of toilet do you have?

Hi ... actually, this is a very interesting observation. And coming from a C200K and E200K owner, I have to say I share formula1's observations!
It VERY WELL MIGHT JUST BE A JEDI MIND-TRICK, but it certainly FEELS smoother and heck a lot quieter, when pulling away in my E-Class, than it ever did in the C!
Could just be the sound insulation though, but that's just me

Try 6 G's for what felt like forever! 6 loops in a Marchetti Fighter Trainer!

For your convenience, g = 9.8 m/s^2, AKA free-fall acceleration. For more reference, see this link http://www.kineticbooks.com/physics/16270/16297/sp.html

You guys sound like the perfect candidates for the extra 20 or so HP you can get from the Kleeman pulley kit + K-box upgrade, plus 10-20 more ponies from their exhaust manifold expected out soon. But how many of you will ACTUALLY do this or will you spend the same amount of money on a flip out DVD player and stereo system, or giant wheels, and continue to complain about how slow your car is?

Wow, I have no issues with acceleration with mine! Of course I chose the much more fun and less power robbing 6MT so that may be the diference. The Automatic's programming of being nice and easy and slow shifting drove me nuts! Not that I would not own one, I just like selecting the gears when I want them myself! As for if the car is slow or can not pull at speed. Even in an Automatic one I have had no issues. It is no AMG, but it is not slow as death by any means. I have driven all three engine's in the USA in the C Class non AMG! The slowest one was the C240, but still by no means too slow. Did not have much off the line but on the highway it was still very pleasant. The C320 takes the cake of course, not slow off the line or on the highway. The C230 is a nice mix or both the C240 and C320. Great gas mileage and great acceleration for me and the wife. Sure it could have more power but by no means is it too slow to keep up with the bigger engined cars with more power on the highway or in town. Of course I drive a 190E 2.3 8 V as my Daily Driver so anything with more than 120Hp gets me excited..... My 190E while slow and low in the power section still has no problems on the highway, sure it is no barn burner but it can still hold 80+ MPH with no issues....

1. Get the C checked. It shoud wipe the E200 into the weeds, with a 30hp DIFFERENCE. Do you have the 1.8 or 2.3 version?
2. This motor is the same mechanically, accross all output versions, with only the software changing...suppsosedly the same crank pulley even. See a Tuner. Bringing it up to the C230's 192HP is easy.

I must stress though, that I'm not claiming that the C230K is slow by any means. I Apologize for the misleading thread title. What I meant to say is that the C is slower, or at least, it *feels* slower in comparison with an E200K.

Until you slap a gtech or a Dyno on it, you'll never know. Personally, I think you guys are on crack if you think the e200 is faster than the C230. 30HP difference fellas. My car actually feels faster from 70-120 than it does 0-70.

Nope, I'm not on crack. And yes, I do feel (I stress on the word feel) that my E200K is faster than my C230K while accelerating from 0-60.
I didn't know smoking crack makes you think the E's faster than the C. Personal experience, Outland? :p

Out Of Control!!
Well it's torque that gives you that feeling of "g force" when accelerating. Does the 200 engine have more lower end torque than the 230K? This would explain that feeling, even with the extra 30 HP of the 230k.
-Just a thought.
Sorry Outland. As soon as I posted, I realized that I had misread the question and deleted my post. You must have replied very quickly!

This is funny...I never knew people on this board could sound so educated...I thought all they talked about are whether their Benz could get chicks and what not hahah j/k...its just funny when you guys started busting out all the G force ..literal Gs..this force that force...and what not...is the question whether a C is underpowered still neccessary? Well at least I have no complain about its power.

Yes, torque is what shoves you back in your seat, as its the only force an engine produces. However, Both versions of the C230 motor make more torque than the e200's. I think its just the quietness of the E class that's all.

In all honesty, I really do feel that the E shoves me back into the seat more than the C. I know that's by no means an accurate gauge of a car's torque but nonetheless, it's what it feels like when comparing both.
OK...I'll get someone to drive the E while I take the wheels of the C and do a sprint down the freeway this weekend. I'll post the results.

C 230K Coupé
Uhm You still didn't mention what kind of engine ur c230k has, nor the transmission you're running. If you have an automatic and a m271 engine, there were a few threads not too long ago about how it felt very underpowered and sluggish at high revs. I have a 2002 c230k (m111) coupe wit a 6speed and i have absolutely no problem getting some pull from the car. You also mentioned that the car seems rough at above 5000 rpm... the redline is at 6000-7000. Whenever i go over 3000 though i can feel the pull of the car all the way to the readline, the engines get all the torque at 3500 rpm, so that definitely helps. Give us a lil more detail about the engine and transmission of your car.
