This past weekend, I just helped my younger sister get a 2010 C300 for $6000 below MSRP in Texas. The Houston-area dealers were willing to go $5,000, $5,200 and $5,600 below MSRP, respectively. A So. California dealer was willing to discount the car $8,000 below MSRP however with transport costs and the inability to have an easy trade-in (old car not worth more than $1,000) the wait wasn't worth it. At the end of the day, she got the exact color (Artic White/Almond) and option (P2, Pano, +) package she wanted with a decent price that she wouldn't have gotten with her busy schedule (she wasn't going to research prices online or visit multiple dealerships).

2009 Arctic White/Black C350 with NAV pkg, ipod integration, 40% HO tint, and 18" 5-spoke AMG wheels
Because the financial folks here want people to think they can afford items out of their income levels...thus the doom and gloom economic recession!

We picked up a CPO 2008 C350, P2, Black, 17200 miles for $29,500 list. Including tax and registration, $32k and change.
Wasn't able to negotiate a dime off the car however was able to get $800 added to my column on my Volvo S60 trade-in.
Based on blue and black book, and autotrader, i think I got a very fine deal.

When you trade a car in, you never really know how the deal is going to be. The point is to be happy. You have a great car in a C350 with very low miles.
I think the C could have been a couple k less, but if they gave near KBB for the trade they made it up there, most dealers don't want to touch kbb on a trade in.

Sounds like the dealer gave you the discount on the Volvo (thousands) and kept the price up on the C a bit.

Then I tried to chip away at the C350. They kept talking about how they had already reduced the price 3 times, yadda yadda, as if that was a favor to me. I explained that obv they had the car overpriced at first. Otherwise, it would've sold.....
They wouldn't budge so I was intent to leave. Had the fiance with me and she wasn't as starstruck with the car and privately we agreed on a price.
I told the dealer we needed another $1k, i don't care if it's off the C, off the Volvo, a couple points off the APR, whatever. We bought in August so qualified for the 3.99 48 month finance on the CPO promo MBFS was offering, so they claimed there was no room there.
In the end, after several rounds of "going to talk to their manager" they added another $800 to the trade-in allowance.
Given that limited info, any tips? Next year we'll be trading her Toyota in.. seemingly at this point for a Mini or TSX, so any tips for the battle with BMWFS or Honda's would be appreciated

Appreciate the perspective. It actually illumimates the process a bit for me.. I was intent to negotiate both parts of the sale separately, starting with the trade-in. We agreed on what I felt was a fair price for the Volvo.

If you start with negotiating the used car value, the dealer will always get very protective on how much "room" he has on the new car deal. And, there is nothing quite as authoritative on his new car price as Kelly Blue Book is for used cars. KBB is used in courts to establish values in civil damages.
Once the price is locked down in writing on paper, then you can come back on another day (after some comparison shopping, hopefully) and introduce the trade, realizing you will not improve on KBB used car value for wholesale trade-in value, but that number already includes local market values, as the zip code is used to calculate the value. You should not be below it. However, with a close reading of the definitions of car condition, you should have a clear used car price to now apply to the deal. Whether or not you then actually finance or show up with cash, you should have a very competitive purchase price. Check it out here for advice, but no one will recognize this as a definitive authority:

Good luck! And if you're Honda shopping, many of those guys are adding oil and loaner for life as well, so be sure that is written down with the original agreed price proposal. And, go check out Hyundai....it's getting harder to justify Honda pricing with Hyundai's ascendancy in quality, performance, and design!

2010 350
Was able to get 7-7,500 off msrp for 2010 C300s in Atlanta and 2 other cities in SE. Ended up getting a 2010 C350 for 6500 off MSRP at a local dealer who would match (apparently there is an additional 1k dealer rebate on C300s... not sure if i buy that, but i wanted the larger engine). Not as many of the options as i would of liked, but the 2010s were going quickly. This thread was very useful, let the mods begin!

Curious what the latest prices are - pondering whether i can afford one as a xmas present!
In particular, i notice prices in So Cal are quite competitive lately. Perhaps I should fly down and drive back up to SF?

CPO 2010 C300 4MATIC Sport, Palladium Silver, w/ P1, iPod, Burl Walnut Trim for $34,500, which was about $37,500 after taxes and fees in Ohio. MSRP when new was $41,700 if I recall correctly.
In service date was sometime in August this year (so with CPO, it was about 4 years + 9 months warranty) and it had ~3k miles. I believe it may have seen some use as a service loaner but mainly the manager drove it around.

I'm pretty sure I got lucky on my 2009 C350:
Exterior: Steel Grey
Interior: Black (Leather)
Wood Trim: Black Birdseye Maple
Options: Panoramic Sunroof
19" AMG 5-Spoke Wheels
Packages:
P2: Premium II w/ Multimedia
Harmon/Kardon Speakers
Upgraded ECU (10-15HP more than stock)
$47,975 MSRP
$42,325 KBB (w/ 30k Miles)
I paid $30,000 even out the door.
