But by far the best feeling shifter was the chrome ball on my 2001 Lexus IS300. It occasionally burns my hand if I leave the car in the sun, but the weightiness of it is just perfect.
I looked at both in the show room and assume the leather shift knob thats on the lux version is the same as the silver colored one on the sport. Same can probably be said of the AMG version thats due out soon. They may all be the same across the lineup. I was wondering about this too, so I tried to unscrew one in the show room, I have seen a lot of cars that do this, but I couldn't get the Benz one to budge. Maybe there is a screw on the back side of that silver trim ring below the actual shift knob? Also of note, the one on the show room with leather already had a chunk missing out of it, from what appeared to be someones ring catching on the little corner where the top plastic button meets the leather.

I really like the AMG knob, its leather and silver.
You know I was just thinking, someone had a post on here awhile back about his transmission locking, couldn't put it into drive. He called Benz and they had him pull out the leather boot and there was a button of some sort under it to unlock the shifter. Well my thoughts were maybe if you pull up the leather boot, theres a screw under there that holds the shift knob on too.
