Thanks for the heads-up. The installation instructions make it sound so easy to remove the plastic pins. I can't even budge mine so I don't want to take a chance to break something else.

Has anyone tried these?

Yes, they are aluminum with a chrome-like finish (that seems like it is going to peel off very quickly). However, they are completely hollow and very light, which make them feel really cheap

I was thinking about getting a set of custom Aluminum ones made, maybe a bit shorter then the OEM ones and rounded at the top.
If this is possible, are other people interested? I will post more info when I find out.

I would be interested, provided:
- When locked, they set into the top of the door so when I rest my arm on the door (window open) I don't get poked by the pin.
- adequate instructions are included vis removal and install
thanks

i'd advise against getting any door pin that sits flush on the door when locked. If your power goes out for any reason (e.g., loose battery cable), you lose power to your vehicle, including the power door locks. Imagine getting stuck inside your vehicle and having no way to manually open the door.

Can anyone please confirm if the existing door pins do in fact screw off? I read another post that said you have to take the door panels off to remove the existing pins. I tried twisting mine, but I don't want to force it and break them.
I think it is quite tacky to have door pins. On my first trip to a fast food window my arm gets to get poked.
I am digging the thought of flush mounted ones when locked. I am not really too worried about getting locked in my vehicle with a dead battery. I mean...what are the odds?

1. Replace you battery every 6 months, so it won't die on you for sure.
2. Open your sunroof manually and climb out from the roof.
3. Get your back seat down and open your trunk with emergency release.
4. Call your MB roadside assistant from your cell.
5. Break your window.
Don't you know that if you're inside, pull your door handle once will unlock the door and second time to open? This is also applied to all the European car as well.

You have 5 options,
1. Replace you battery every 6 months, so it won't die on you for sure.
2. Open your sunroof manually and climb out from the roof.
3. Get your back seat down and open your trunk with emergency release.
4. Call your MB roadside assistant from your cell.
5. Break your window.

Also another thing I noticed when I pulled the back one off the part that attaches to the pin still sticks up a bit so a flush mount (without a lot of mods) will not work.

The rear ones pull off by just twisting and pulling up. For some reason or another the front ones do not. Not really sure why they are different. If you have to remove the door panels that will be a pain, but I will investigate.

Anyone considered getting rid of the dreaded lock pins once and for all?
Think about it. The pins are totally useless!! You dont need to pull on them to unlock the door, just pull the handle and the door will unlock, pull again and it will open. The car will lock itself after 10 mph, so no need to push down the pins either. On top of that you have lock/unlock buttons on each of the front doors. So, instead of changing the pins, maybe a nicely fitted aluminum cap to cover the hole where the pin used to be is a better option. What do you think?

Rear doorpin removed ** PICS **
Here are 2 pictures with the rear door pin removed. One locked and one unlocked.
Just noticed an issue. If we get doorpins that are lower then when the doors are locked people cannot unlock the doors so might be an issue in an accident. But then again if you want to use it as "child locks" it would work! And also pulling the rear door handles 2x does not unlock it.
