Hi and welcome! And congrats on the impending arrival

Where in the world are you (obviously not the USA or Canada, coz they don't get the 4-pot engines)?

FWIW, I factory collect my C220cdi Elegance - in Tenorite Grey (great colour choice, BTW ) - in less than two weeks and if anything the wait is becoming more difficult as collection date gets closer.

I'm from Ireland. I'd love to go up the scale in engine size but just can't afford it (thanks to the government here cars are seriously expensive).

I'm only driving a 1.6 litre engine at the moment which is 100 hp so the c180 is a good improvement for me!!

I spoke to my friend who I'm buying the car off last night (he works in a MB dealership) and he told me the car is in the country so it should be Tuesday that I get it. And yes the wait does get harder as it gets closer! Every morning I get up and repeat "X days to go"

Do you guys in the US/Canada get the shift paddles there or not? Used them when I was test driving it and they're great.

But there is a need for the C180 in certain markets due to tax points, viz:

It's not MB policy that sucks on this, trust me.

Yeah we have VRT (vehicle registration tax) here which seriously raises the price of cars depending on the value, size of engine, emissions etc. I actually bought my current A3 in the UK and brought it back to Ireland to save a couple of grand.

I also looked into buying my c180 off a german dealer (getting a right hand drive). If I had done this I would have saved about €3000 but I got a similar discount off my friend (MB dealer) so bought it here.

Now in Canada we don't get the shift paddles. We can manually shift with the shift leaver.

I remember how exited I was when I waited for my first MB. I hope you never loose that wonderful feeling. A friend of mine and I bought the same car on the same day and when we told our wives they were very upset. We both promised to keep the cars for 10 year.

We both lied. I kept my car for 5 years and he for 26 years.

So if you can "bottle" that great feeling of anticipation and I can tell you it was worth your while.

By the way we have a great Irish Community here in Canada and you could almost feel right at home here, except for the weather, we have very little rain.

Congratulations... the feeling when you pick up your first Merc is about as good as holding your first child in your sweaty hands.

I had the experience of the former last week. However, it has been a lot of sick feeling along the way too. I had to trade in, so you know how that goes. Probably got ripped off a little, so I keep feeling sick to my stomach, but whenever I'm in the car it goes away, and I smile very wide. It's such a beautiful machine.

Yeah I must say that since I first placed the order back in October I have been counting down the days. Forget xmas and new years, just give me my first merc!!

How do you like the A3?
It was my first car and I really liked it. German built so solid and with everything in the right place. I toyed with the idea of getting the A4 but when I saw the new c class there was no contest.

So is it today or tommorow??
Just spoke to my friend and it won't be until saturday now, but at least I'll be getting it on a day when I'm not working and go off and enjoy that first ride!

Yep so it means I'll be leaving the city anytime I want to go for a good spin.

Looks out window at the wind and rain

I've got family in the Wicklow area as well as in Clare and Galway. Probably going to spend a week in Dublin in a couple of months visiting a cousin at Trinity. Is all of that airport construction completed yet? Was there in '05 and it took me over an hour to get from the airport our hotel in town.

Anyway, congrats on the car. I'll be looking for you on the road.

No afraid not, m50 (motorway from airport) is still under heavy construction and a nightmare at rush hour. It does depend what time you are travelling at though.

Yep that's the one I was talking about. Flight usually arrives right at morning rush hour so I guess I'm screwed. It isn't how I prefer to get reacquited with driving on the other side of the car and road. I'll try to make sure to steer clear of any W204's I see.

15 minutes to go before I head off to the dealership to collect it ... reminds me off the last few minutes of school before summer holidays

I have to go back into work once I collect it but will try and take some shots as soon as I get a chance.
