Yes indeed this would be the wrong forum for a discussion about the E class.....but, an E55? Didn't the E55 get replaced with the E63 a few model years ago? Doesn't make much sense for Benz to bring a car back from the dead for only a few months before the new redesigned model comes out. Lol this thread is making less sense the more I think about it.
Ok to add to this, I just got done searching the forum and found nothing about a new E55, so was this a typo...were you referring to a C63?

Must be referring to the C63.
MB wouldn't bring the E55 back a year before they come out with a completely new design for the E Class. Nothing about it on the E - AMG forums either.
To answer the OP's original question, I am considering either the C63 or the new E Class in a few years. The choice will depend on how I like my C350 and what the new E looks like.

It's my own longevity study...funded by me.
If the new E is like the C I'll get the C63. I'm hoping for something closer to the look of the new S class.

the new c63 looks sick. and the power in that car would make anyone happy. how much will this car be selling for in the states? my dealer in canada told me that us canadians should expect it to sell for around 90k. to be honest thats quite a bit to spend on a c-class no matter if it is an amg.

I've always thought that about the AMG C class cars. They are way too expensive for what your getting, I mean after all its just a C class with a huge engine and some suspension tweaks. I think I saw somewhere that the expected price for the C63 will be around $70k U.S. that easily puts it into Corvette Z06 range. The Vette would be the all around better sports car, but it only has room for two.

MB needs to think about this. on the one hand it does carry the AMG badge but the pricing makes one wonder if they are better off to buy a new E550. And to release these cars so close to each other seems to be a internal conflict.

MB is trying to cut into BMW's 3-buyer segments, hell, almost every luxury automaker wants to play in that pool. Hence you will see similar pricing models amongst its own line of vehicles.... you have the S4, M3, the new IS F.... lets see, am i missing anything else? Infiniti ? time to step up the GS37? Either case, all of them are relatively priced to its next model line up.
coincident? I think not...

Yea, so it does seem that way with pricing. I can see why MB would choose to position its new c-class this way tho... As Top Gear has put it (paraphrasing) " the C63 is an excellent car but afterall its still an imitiation of the original (that being the M3)"

History aside, the w203 trailed behind the e46 for its entire existence. The star is playing catchup in this segment for sure.

Ah so it was the C63 the original poster was speaking of..see we can decode Benz talk ha ha. As for getting on a waiting list and what not...I think I would pass. Yeah the car will be hot when it first comes out just like the C was, but give it a few months and it will slow down and you will score a better price. Same thing has happened the the C class and every time I'm at my dealership they always have AMG cars that they can't move. So after a few months of letting the hype die down, if you still want one you could probably get a good deal. But as mentioned above, I for one would get a number of cars for that price before I would shell out $70k for a C class on roids.

The AMG should be about 65-70 in the US depending on options. Much higher than that and you are getting into the E AMG territory.
The proximity in price to the standard E class is why I am up in the air about which to get. Would I prefer a larger, more comfortable car or an AMG? We'll see. With the C63 it appears that all you are really paying for in the AMG are some power, suspension and exhaust upgrades.
Heck, I guess I could just get the E with a the sports package and a couple AMG parts and put the AMG badge on it!

Valid point here...E63 is $86 and C63 is $67...although Benz still nickel and dimes you when you buy an AMG car! You spend $86k on a car and they expect you to then put up almost $4k more for Xenon lights that should be standard? Not to mention anyone who knows anything about the AMG cars should opt for the AMG package...yet another $9k on top of what you have already spent. Suppose once your into this price range whats a few more k's but come on...Xenons as an option..really?
The way MB sees it is when you are buying car in that range, you shouldn't nickel and dime them on few k here and there.
I was at the dealership where they had a cl65 amg on the floor. A MMA/Wrestler looking type of guy (dressed nicely casual) went up to it and started to stare at it intensively. A sales lady walked to him and ask if he had any questions and the second line that followed it was "this is a 300 thousand dollar car" The guy didn't even blink nor look at her and just nodded his head. She walked away.
Point is, MB sales *think* they do not have to sell a car in that price range. They think those who would actually buy would just sign a check without even looking at it. Sadly, they are probably right.

A C350, leather, P2, MM, 18'' AMG, Pano Roof, Ipod, Metallic Paint, Tel Aid runs $47k. Although that sounds like a lot of options it seems pretty reasonable after reading this forum for people to purchase such optioned cars. That puts the price you quoted at a 7k difference...very unlikely. The price difference between a E350 and a E63 is $34k, so my best guess would be in the $65-70k range for a C63.
