i got my v1 off of ebay and it didn't come with the straight cable so i had to buy one from radio shack. if you buy your v1 from the manufacturer it will come with a straight cable but make sure its long enough...i opted for the 10 ft.

other than that its simple...just make sure to put the wire BEHIND the airbag cause nobody wants to get blasted in the face with a wire at 100mph in a crash.

How come? Oops. Did I just jinx myself? Dah. I've read a few DIYs that mentioned that. Will watch out. Thanks for the lookout.

And any off the shelf straight wire would work? Can you help a brotha out and tell me exactly what that cable is called? I don't need part numbers, just something to walk into Radioshak with and say, "Yo, I need a _____________________ cable. Make it 10 ft." Thanks much.

I'm guessing something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...2BSI%26otn%3D4

Looks different than the one from Radioshak? Or does it looks similar?

You can wire tuck the v1 without the hardwiring kit. All you need is the 12v cigarette power adaptor and a pretty long telephone wire and you are set

ok i forgot how much of a v1 newbie you are

v1's power cable is a telephone chord. they'll give you 2 when you purchase...a straight one and a coiled one. its just a regular ol' telephone chord.

they also give you a cigarette adapter that has a telephone jack on it. you pick which chord you want to use (straight or coiled) and plug it into the adapter which then goes to your cigarette lighter power source.

No longer have the need to speed, but I like to know in advance if there is a "threat". Valentine V1 is my pick.

2019 GLA 250 - I am in purgatory right now...
I use a passport 8500 and it has saved me numerous times, I use the visor clip and hook it underneth my visor on the passengerside and just plug it into the ashtray lighter. The cord hangs down the middle of the car, but it's not bad and I only use it on the commutes so I disconnect it when not in use. Sounds like I need a laser jammer next. I got hit with laser twice and I locked them up both times on the expressway. nearly caused a pile up once, but I have been doing well so far knock on wood.

the v1 i think is a 2 mile range and it scares you because you will be driving and it will start with one little dot for strength and it beeps and youre like omg a cop but you never see it until miles later so it gives you a long time to slow down. If you are deciding between a v1 and anything else, go with the v1 you will not regret it

So whatever happened to that integrated display in the center cluster for V1? I'd love to see that!

And in an ideal world - if you could change the background color on alerts too - there is a red backlight there after all.

TIA!

need your opinion

I just got my 1st ticket with the C350 over the weekend (1st one in 7 years!!!). I came from a stop light going to the dealer which is only about 1/4 mile away. The cop staked out at 2/3 of the distance of the dealer and laser gunned me. The cop said i was going 51 at 35. But I didn't really pay attention to the speed because I was so close to the dealer. Do you guys think it's possible for a stock C350 to go from 0 to 51 mph in that distance? I am debating if i should plead guilty or not guilty.

I am now gonna get a Valentine 1 and have been looking on Ebay. 2 questions here. 1. how come some of the sellers are selling the item for $450 or higher when the maker itself is selling the unit at $399?
2. Some sellers are selling their open box unit. how do we know if those are authentic, good valentine 1 unit?

thank you for your help in advance.

Just buy it direct from V1. That way you have full warranty and tech support.

Depending on how old it is. Also, get the serial number and call Valentine1 to ensure the unit has not been reported stolen.

If you want to save money on a Valentine One:

Call Valentine Research at 1 800 331 3030 and ask for a returned V1 and you will get 10% off the retail price of $399. Tell them you don't mind being put on the waiting list. Guaranteed, they will ship a V1 out within 2 days. It will be the latest version V1.8 POP2 w/ Euro-mode and 3.863 firmware and that comes with all the accessories and a 1 year warranty.
[/QUOTE]

Got my Valentine 1 today. You are right. They didn't have the returned item in stock, but only took them 2 days to get one and shipped to me. Now, we are only find out if it really works or not.

One more thing. Why are there people selling and buying the detector for over $400 on Ebay when you can get it from the source for $399 brand new?
