Factory Ordering Process
I was hoping some of the folks on this thread, who have custom ordered their cars, could shed a little light on what the process is for placing an order. Once the price (and lease terms for those leasing) has been established, what does the dealer typically require in form of down-payment? And generally, what are the buyer obligations on an order?
I apologize for the stupid questions... I obviously have not bought a new car in quite a long time, and just want to make sure I go into this with as much info as possible.
Many thanks, as always,
Dan (aka waydown)

Wayup we got a few stickys for . That and the search function should cover all of the basic questions you have. For more detailed ones afterwards please post in the appropriate thread(s).

It depends on what type of relationship you have with your dealership too. I have done a lot of business with my dealership so they treat me better than the average customer. In most cases you will be asked to put down a $1000 deposit, if its an odd optioned car such as a manual transmission, the deposit will not be refundable. In my case I had the option of not taking the car when it came in if I wasn't happy with it and would get my deposit refunded. Its best to check with your dealership before putting down any deposit if your not 100% sure. Same goes for having your dealership trade for a car. Sometimes the car you want is already built and could be at another dealership, on the water, or waiting at port. In those cases your dealership can trade with the dealership who owns that car and it works the same way, you put down the $1000 deposit, but in this case it won't be refundable unless your on good terms with your dealership.
