problems at 7k

After 4 months and 7k miles my c300 breaks down 100 miles from home with smoke pouring from the engine bay and the head/tail lights flickering so it gets towed to the nearest dealer. I go there the next day to pick up a loaner so I could get back home and to work... and was denied and told I'd have to pay. What kind of warranty is this? Luckily I had someone in the area to pick me up and let me stay at their house but I'm stranded 100 miles from home. The few times my Audi broke down I got a free loaner without questions. How much is it really costing MB to give me a loaner for a few days until it's fixed, especially after paying 40k for the car to begin with? I've never owned a Mercedes in the past, so is this normal practice after a breakdown? Can I get a rental car and hotel and submit the bill to MBUSA?

Can't help you on the issues, but loaners/shuttles is all dealership policy. All MB dealerships, except for MB of Manhattan, independently owned and operated.

That's very disappointing to hear. Hope you get taken care of in the end. Let us know if you're able to get it taken care of to your satisfaction.

MB of Manhattan is the only U.S. Mercedes dealer owned by MBUSA. So you really can't blame MB (not you, the OP) for not providing a loaner, since MB has no control over those dealers in that part.

I thought that MBUSA paid for loaners for warranty repairs, so the dealership is basically obligated to give one to you. My dealership gives me a loaner anytime I bring a car in for anything.

My dealership says they provide loaners, but they never have. Always seem to run out of them at the last minute, despite "reserving" one weeks ahead when I scheduled the service. Instead I get a ride to wherever I want within reasonable distance in a VW Passat...

U need to call MBUSA to get them involved, I am sure the loaner and hotel are both covered, if MBUSA is notified

In the rare event that a breakdown caused by a warranty-covered condition occurs more than 100 miles from your home, take comfort. If the breakdown leaves your Mercedes-Benz inoperable or unsafe to drive and requires overnight repairs at an authorized MB Retail Center, we'll reimburse you up to $300 per day (for up to three days) for documented expenses*.

* Eligible expenses include meals, lodging and substitute transportation while your Mercedes-Benz is being repaired.

Being 100 miles from home you qualify for everything listed above, I have taken them up on this once in a 2002 C class and had no problems with it, just call benz. 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES (1-800-367-6372)

I forgot to mention the service center is closed weekends so I'm calling tomorrow to find out what's wrong. I could smell something burning under the hood and wires had to be crossed because the head and taillights wouldn't shut off unless I opened and closed the door. My Audi had one problem after another so if this is going to be the case with the Benz I'm getting rid of it, I can't afford a rental car everytime something happens. At least with the Audi they gave me a loaner each time.
