Put your emergency brake on.
Then hit the gas real hard..
Make sure you are in 5th gear
and then slam on the brakes
do that over and over.
You will get the hang of it.

Launching is the most difficult part and don't beat yourself too hard if you can't get 1st->2nd shift smooth at first. They are usually the tallest gears and is generally harder to shift smooth thn other gears.

hi, i just got my c300 stickshift real-wheel drive
i haven't driven stickshift much so this is really hard.
1. when I start off, should i wait until i can fully let go of the clutch and then give it some gas? assume i am in the first gear.
2. when i shift from the 1st to the 2nd, it usually jerks a lot, anyone knows why? am i still supposed to let go of the clutch as slow as i were to start off?
thanks

Just a few pointers though:
1) i think it is best to practice 'holding the clutch'. this basically means that you raise the clutch ever so gently until something called the 'biting' point. At the same time put you foot gently on the gas. i am sure that as you learn to do this you will stall a few times, but hopefully you will get the hang of it. The car should just about be ready to move forward but wont until you engage more gas and almost lift your foot of the clutch.
Be wary of keeping you foot on the clutch. in the uk is a driving test fail! Apart from safety side (i.e. your engaging the clutch) your clutch will wear out in next to no time if you keep your foot on the clutch.
2) As someone else has said, it is basically because you have to blip teh gas when changing gears. you can use the gas to smooth out the gear change i.e. increase the gas as you lift your foot off the cluch.
finally and sorry if this is obvious remember to depress the cluch when braking. Best to do this at the last moment. you should feel the car start to ever so slightly vibrate as you are coming to a standstill and then depress the cluch.
i hope this helps. feel free to ask. we all have to learn.
