Tow bars
I want a tow bar for my W204 so I can move my cycles about and take my garden trailer to the dump. The genuine one costs 2,300 NZ Dollars but doesnt look like it will accept the cycle carrier.
Whats been the experience of others in Tow kits. (SOmetimes called a trailer hitch in Germany.)

W 204 Tow bar
Hello , I have an Australian complience MB tow bar fitted to our W204 220CDI. It is built by Trimotive Melbourne. List price including fitting was about Aust$2,500 .My bicycle rack fits OK & it tows my trailer ..I asked about the European swinging type tow bar but it did not meet Australian design rules hence the Melbourne manufactured unit.
I had a leak in the boot after fitting & the service manager found that the water ran down & inside the rear bumper bar as it should ,but then along the towbar & into the subframe then the boot! The sub frame was leak proofed to rectify the problem.
The tongue of the tow bar is held in the frame of the towbar by one tapered bolt & nut.There is a slight sideways movement which did cause some rattle when towing under some road conditions, I overcame this by welding a thin pad on the inner side of the tongue to take up the play.
