Thoughts on 2009 Audi A4 (B8)

It seems like a pretty good competitor to the C300/C350

Your link doesn't work...I think this is the link...

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=122888

...and I agree...a worthy competitor.

I have the B7 and love it. The styling of the B8 isn't so unique anymore...one could mistake it for a 3 series from the rear. the rest of the car is pure sex!

I was very close to getting a B7...so close in fact that I visited the Audi dealer almost on a weekly basis for awhile. Truth be told if they would have gotten in the exact car I wanted without me having to order it I would be driving an A4 now and not a C. I had some issues with the B7, mainly that it was nearly identical inside and out as the car I was trading in (3 series). It was quite strange how similar the two cars were as far as shape, layout, and materials. I didn't want another BMW, one was enough I've had my fill and I had a 2002 C which was pretty much the same car as the 2007 version so that was out of the question. But once I figured out I would have to order one I thought I might as well just order a new C if I'm going to be waiting. Sure glad I did for two reasons, one the C is a great car and two the new A4 B8 looks so damn good I would be really mad at myself for getting a B7 lol.

2008 220CDI Sport Auto Estate, Obsidian Black, Black leather, Heated Seats,Pan Roof, Comand,
I have seen the new A4 in the flesh so to speak. It was launched here end of Feb. To be honest at first look there is no major difference {IMO}to the previous A4.
Of course it has the now familiar DRL's but there is nothing else that makes it stand out especially on the outside. Inside it has been brought upto date in line with the A6 & A5.
I am happy that I chose the 'C'.

The new A4's biggest problem is that it is an Audi.

C350 4MATIC Premium Package Obsidian Black
i have only seen photos of the a4 i dont know any specs. however from what i see i like. i think that it will give the c300/350 a good run and steal market share. for me it boils down to looks. i would have to say i am a consumer that basis my descisions on looks. so hands down the the 350 was for me. i hear alot of people complaining about audi, saying that they have alot of problems. what are the major issues with these cars?? and lets be honest guys if you buy or lease a car new most of use dump them before the warranty runs out....so things should be fine.

2009 a4

i would trade my 204 for the new audi in a heartbeat, and the whole thing about the only problem with the car is that its a an audi, look at the cars audi is producing right now, in my opinion i think audi has a hotter line-up right now with the rs4, s5 and the new a4 then all their competition.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
Audi A4s are great cars. Especially with the 2.0t motor. It's less expensive and has way more potential than the V6 (if that's your thing). Just an APR chip will bring the hp up to around 250 with almost 300 lbs. of tq. I think they finally got it completely right with the B8. As far as looks go, I don't think it's much of an improvement over the B7. It has a really long looking nose. I was considering one, but I have too many VAG products and wanted something different. It will probably be more sporty driving than the C if you get AWD. Front WD, is basically like any other FWD car. They do have a pretty cool multi link front suspension that makes it feel like less of a FWD car though.

I really wish Audi's came in RWD; that would really up their sales.

Audi A$

I did a focus group about a month ago. Audi hosted it and had the New A4 side by side with the luxury c300 bmw 328 lexus is 250.
I am not a Lexus fan. The bimmer was 3rd place and the Merc 2nd. Although a C350 sport I would still like a little bit better than the new A4. The A4's engine note ruled. the best out of the line up. The interior was nicer than any. The seats were great, hugged the best, double stitched. the car looks amazing and the most aggresive out of the bunch. Tell you what. I love the New c body style, but I would lean twards the A4 if it came in slightly less exspensive than the C300 or C350 with comparable options.

I like the styling of the new A4 aswell and the interior is outstanding compared to its opponents. But the main problem I got is the overall resemblence all Audis got. They all look the same. When you stand next to an A3 you could almost think it is an A6 Wagon. Only on the second look you get what car it is. That is definitly not what you paid for.
Especially upfront the cars start to look very much the same. You can barely tell the difference of an A4/5 and an R8!! And I call myself a crazy carnut

I like the looks for the new corporate Audi front end, but the back, as another poster observed, looks like a BMW3xx. Are Audi's reliable?

I thought lined up next to each other the B8 was supposed to be way bigger? Like almost A6 sized?

The B8 looks kind of dull to me. But I'll reserve judgement until I see one.

I'm a big Audi fan (wife has a Q7) and no complaints with the Audi dealer here (they also have the Benz dealership) so I may get one after the C300. Just depends if they continue to push toward purchase and away from leasing. Course it depends if AudiNA brings back low purchase interest rates again too.

That and if they bring in a titanium package. I really like the blacked out looks of the titanium package.

For you guys maybe looking at an Audi purchase, most of the Audi dealers I've heard from discount heavily as a result of AudiNA trying to move away from leasing (that's a sad statement to how bad resale values are). We got our Q7 for $4000 under invoice. So don't pay too much attention to MSRP when shopping around. I've heard the Costco program with Audi is instantly $500 over invoice.

Or wait till new models are on the lot and pick up a left over, I had a chance to pick up an A6 for 34k that was 12k off of the m.s.r.p., they were also taking up to 15k off of Q7's that were left on the lot. Only downside to that practice is you get stuck with strange color combos and cars that are usually heavily optioned. I'm guessing resale is quite bad on Audi's?

Aren't Audis ranked significantly lower than other German marques in the JD Power reliability ratings? That may be it; I don't know.

My friend was telling me that he leased an A4 2.0 for 400 a month w/o down payment. It was a great car for the 8 hours I drove it. My other friend also had a 2001 black on black A4 and it was really nice. Quite a shame that not many people would consider Audis.

Let's just say the residual values ain't good ... and the real-world auction values are worse.

It's not like domestic bad, but it's close to VW bad. Nothing seems to have great resale value now days anyway though.

I don't put a ton of weight behind JD Power ratings. But I never keep a german car out of warranty. As long as I've worked with the dealership before and I know they treat me good, I'm not too worried about reliability.

I should preface that: I don't worry about a german car breaking down. Electrical gremlins? Yes. Mechanical problems? Not so much.

I had an A4 3.0 quatro and the car was great. No issues. I would say it was better then my bmw, better them my W202 and W203. The W204 is stronger than the audi though.

Are saying it is an overall stronger car or has a stronger engine?

I'm still not sold on diesel engines. The cost to get the engine itself is usually $1500 - $2500 more than the gas version. Then to add onto that your paying over $4 a gallon for the diesel fuel. As of right now to make back the initial cost over the gas version of the same car you would have to drive the diesel version over 100k miles. For me, I get rid of them after 4 years or 50k I don't want a car without a warranty, guess I could get an extended warranty but I honestly don't want to keep a car any longer than that. So for me to even consider a diesel version it would have to get double the mileage of what the gas version would get to make it a good value, so the C gets 30 on a good highway trip, I would want 60 at the least.

I literally spent an hour a day, every day since October dreaming of getting a W204, i finally convinced myself to not trade in my lease early and wait for a MY-09 so i could get (hopefully) all the options i felt it was lacking....

i recently been reading about this 09-A4, and i think thats the way im going to go. i think the looks are great, i think the interior is MUCH nicer then the W204, i think the features for the money are also superior.

one concern i do have is i have always heard audi's lease really bad. it may be to soon to even go to the dealership to inquire about it, because i dont think it will be released until august/september. for now im just trying to stay open minded, i will be making a move on this in 3-6 months, as of now, im think the A4 is it for me.

I heard the opposite on leases. My friend is leasing an A4 for no money down, and he said that it was only 50 dollars a month more than an Accord.

They're trying to move all the '08 models before the '09 B8 models come in. Lots of lease advertisements now.
