Adding the sliding cover to the cup holders.

I've noticed that the european C Class has a nice looking sliding cover where we have the twin cup holders.

What's under the sliding cover? Cup Holder or storage?

Is there a way to adapt this sliding cover to the North American car?

Thanks.

Pierre

I'm an american, I have no use for my cup holder, i dont eat nor drink in my car, therefore it's just 2 holes staring at me. I read somewhere once, that in germany people buy their benz to drive on the autobahn, not to drive in drive thru's

It's storage under the cover in the UK. If we want cup holders then it's an extra £20

Hi there, not sure if you did you get teh cup-holder, but if you didnt it is worth having. Basically, it the compartment serves both as a cup holder and a storage compartment. MB give you bit of plastic that slides neatly into the storage compartment but you can still slide the cover. btw, i am sure i paid nearly £35 inc for mine, £20 seems cheap!

As for american owners, it's worth seeing if you have a small gap in the cup holder top frame for a sliding frame. I'll take a pic later and post if it will help. You may be able to order the sliding part and fit it on.

Cup holder is definitely £20 as a factory option don't know about dealer fit. Cig Lighter is £30 though.

Geez, you guys on the other side of the lake have to pay for the smallest options.

35 pounds for cup holders and 30 for a cigarette lighter?!?!

Have you got the track that the cover slides in. If you have let me know and I will get a price from the local MB dealer and let you know.

No track here...

No track to be seen here, unless one can remove the cup holder and discover the hidden track.

Would someone post a picture of the European version with the cover open so we can see the difference?

i think its a completely different console. i went to the MB over here in the U.A.E and seen the consoles and the sliding part is different, its more of a rectangle shape. whats really nice is over here they have a ____V6 CLS and a V6 S Class, thats nice to have instead of a gas drinking V8.

Looks complicated !!

I'm starting to think it would be complicated to remove the whole thing and replace it with a part imported from Europe.

Alternate Ash Tray

They would really be doing me a favor if they offered an option for the ash tray/cigarette lighter compartment. I don't smoke, so it really is of limited use for me. I had the option in my BMW 3 series back in 2000 for the non-smoking kit, so I wonder why this option isn't available with MB?

Yes, it is standard. Neither wife nor I smoke, but I like having the extra 12v power outlet to run Nuvi 350. (Power plug in glove box drives V1 radar detector.)

The ashtray is easily removed, and makes a nice place to put money for Parking Meters.

Radar detectors are illegal here. (sigh).

The cigarette tray, all rubberish, is a great place to stash a bunch of quarters. Sure it's harder to dig them out (you have to remove the tray and shake out what you need), but when they're in there, they are quiet. I don't like the sound of coins jingling in my car ;-)

Do what I did. REMOVE the silver "ashtray" part, lay a piece of wide velcro "fuzzy" side up, and then you have a quiet quarter keeper.
