I think this option is called "Keyless Go". It is available in Australia. I have it as an option for my c200k. Loved it so much, so convenient, and it is so cool. Glad I decided to go for this option even though my wife thinks it's only a $A1700 toys.
Cheers

Keyless Go is the closest you will ever see MB get to a push button starter. Benz takes pride in their rolling coded security ignition, I don't see them straying from it like some of the other companies have. Keep in mind that the companies that offer the push button ignition don't have the patented ignition set up that MB does.

Okay so I talked to an MB rep that just got out of a training/meeting about the future cars...
The 2009 C-Class will be the same as it is now. The 2009.5 (second series) will have two changes.
#1 - It will include Memory Seats (Im sure its an addition option thought)
#2 - Configuring the Steering wheel will be powered instead of manual.
-- I asked about keyless go, shift paddlers, and etc and his response was that they don't want to add too many options because it start cutting into the other models like the E class and even the C63 will be impacted as well.
this is according to him...I dont know how true it is but it sounds pretty understandable...
So do you think its a good Idea to get the C-Class this year?

You know I got to thinking about this and I feel a bit stupid now. Benz could still use their rolling code key and have push button start if they wanted to. I was thinking more about the twist and let go ignition. I love the fact that all I have to do is insert the key twist and let go, it does the rest for me. I had a 07 BMW for a loaner one week and found that for the first couple days it was fun to insert the key and then push the button to start it. Then after about the fourth day I started to get annoyed by the fact that it was taking me extra steps to do the simplest of functions. First insert key, then press start button. To stop, press start/stop button, remove key. Its much easier to just insert key and twist in one motion, why we need an extra step to just start or stop the car is beyond me.

i have keyless in my car since i live in canada. believe me your not missing out on anything special. i could care less about pushing the button to start the car. its a novelty. and there are some headaches that you will encounter with keyless. for example if you are driving and you pass your car off to another driver (girlfriend/wife) and you forget to take the key out of your pocket to give it to that person. they will have to drive back to pick the key up from you or you drop it off. one step further lets say that person drives off with your car and your holding on to the key and they shut off the ignition...depending on how far apart the 2 of you are one of you will have to get a ride to meet the other so that the car can be started again. dont say this never happens because for alot of us out there myself included this is the first car i have had with this option and it has almost happend to me a few times.

I think keyless go is amazing personally. It's so cool being able to turn the car with the push of a button. Everytime a girl sits in my car she wants to push it That and the fact that unlocking the doors I can do by just opening the handles is so convenient. I don't regret getting it one bit. Just my thoughts.

Midway down theres a link to the Smart Key video, take a look..although it doesn't go into great detail about the actual ignition itself.
