Freakin' Fog light

Thanks c3nthusiast. You don't still have the OEM part number for the fog that actually worked, do you?
Still, I'd like to know about the w/amg vs. w/o amg thing for future reference if anyone happens to know.

Okay, I found this picture of a model in Japan that clearly has a sport package (star in grille), but has a different lower grill / fog light design, and I'm pretty sure those are the parts I got when I specified "no AMG".
By the way, the lower grill in this design is about 1/2" thick and made of a rubbery plastic (no way a rock could penetrate it), compared to the brittle 1/8" thick plastic our US grill is made of. I was pretty excited when I got it, thinking that MB finally admitted to a bad design and redesigned it... until I found out it didn't fit.
So same question, has anyone ordered parts tagged with "Sport, w/AMG" that successfully fit the W204 Sport model sold in the US?

Yes, I ordered an aftermarket fog light for the C300 Sport and they sent me an oval light which clearly didn't fit.

Washing the car yesterday and found the passenger's side fog light lens with a nice stone shot in it. Full of condensation from washing the car. Now I get to find out what my local dealer charges to replace one.
I have a clear bra, but nothing on the fog or headlights. Guess I'll close that barn door now that the horse has gone.

I don't think so...the glass breakage is too smooth for a rock
It's cut along the circle..just like your eyeglasses

Cracked fog light. the dealer quoted something like $375. I ordered the part myself for around $115 and installed it too. 2 hex bolts to remove the mounting place from the front bumper (from the outside even) then twist the bulb and replace it. So simple it made me realize how jacked up the dealer can be sometimes.
pics would be very helpful

I think I'll try one of these. I've replaced one fog already and right now I need another. Odd crack this time though. It's a complete circle around the lens about 1/4" in from the edge. No sign of impact that I can see. Wonder if it's thermal shock that occurs when cold water hits the heated lens? If it is, and it's common, it is a defect in material or workmanship and perhaps a warranty issue. BMW had the same problem back when the E36 3 series was introduced. They replaced them under warranty at that time.
I took the car to the dealer and told them that it might be a defect. but they kept saying it's because of road hazards/rocks
I don't think so...it is too perfect for a rock to cause this
it's a complete circle around the lens... I told them it could be because of the temperature which caused the glass to crack

Dealer quoted me $500 to replace both. I have one cracked and the other is sandblasted pretty bad.
This thread is a bit confusing - I saw those fogs on E-bay and now glad I didn't order them. Can we have some success stories here, any aftermarket fogs that fit perfectly?
Kind regards,
Rick

I know I've seen a thread about this before and if memory serves me correctly, the conclusion was drawn that change in temperature was the culprit for our broken foglights. I have my 3rd set of foglights on my vehicle now and they have over 40K miles on them because I converted to HID kits for the fogs. Because they burn much cooler than the factory halogen bulbs, there's no more cracking. Save yourself future aggravation (and money) and purchase replacements while converting to HID at the same time.

Just following up for anyone that needs to order replacement C300 sport fog lights for DIY installation: after going through nearly every Trademotion-based parts store on the internet, the cheapest I've found is $84.70 for the original OEM Hella light at www.vipgermanparts.com. My local dealer in Boston wanted $170 and another hundy to install it.
The www.vipgermanparts.com store is serviced out of the Mercedes-Benz of Palm Springs parts dept. They price their online parts at cost+10%, which is as good as I've found.
If you have a C300 Sport, you need to specify "w/amg" even though your car is not AMG (same goes for any body parts you need to order, such as when your lower mesh grilles gets taken out with a rock, which you can pretty much count on occurring at some point). The "w/o AMG" parts are for a different sport package not sold in the US, and they are much cheaper plastic lights in the wrong shape, not the glass-and-metal Hella's that come with the US sport package (paid the 15% restocking fee to find that nugget out).
Here's a direct link to order the fog lights:
http://www.vipgermanparts.com/partlo...layCatalogid=0
Remember LEFT is Drivers side, RIGHT is passenger.
I ordered the fog as well as the mesh grille replacements here. Installation of the passenger's side fog is a 10-min job if you have the right tools: Used a tack puller to pull the lower two pins out of the wheel well liner and one from the bottom of the car where the liner wraps around the bottom towards the front. 3 torx scres come off the outer grille/bezel around the fog. Reaching behind the light through the space opened up with the bezel off, ysed a stubby torx driver to take out the 4 mounting screws on the light, bent the liner up from the bottom to squeeze the light out the bottom of the car (it won't fit out the front, which is why you have to mess with the wheel well liner), and repeat in reverse with the new light. As has been noted the driver's side is complicated due to the washer fluid tank crowding the space, so I can't speak for how much more work that is. Good luck.

Can't help but wonder if these fog lights are made by more than one subcontractor for MB and some are more likely to bust.
I've had my C300 for 2.5 years and (knock on wood) haven't broken a fog light yet. By the same token, just cracked my 3rd windshield.

I just got my C a couple of weeks ago but I will be very careful to look for cracks/chips. Its funny because even the S has this problem because I notice alot of chips on the windshield of my In-Law's car.
Back on topic: I believe I will be ordering some LAMIN-X for my fogs!

the "w/ amg" your referring to is the sport "amg styling". The "w/o amg" is referring to the Luxury Styling.
C300-C350 Sport = AMG Style parts
C300-C350 Luxury = Non AMG parts
They aren't referring to the engine if that's what you were thinking. They're referring to the body style.

My drivers side fog light decided to join the club. It's a tiny hair line looking scratch, but condensation is building up and isn't going away.
For some reason the drivers side of my car is plagued by issues. The mirror turn signal condensates after a wash, and it's been about 4 + days now that the condensation has not evaporated

Does the new foglight assembly come with a bulb (mine is '09 Sport if that matters)? If not, is it worth it to move the old bulb (mine still works) from the old assembly to the new one?
