Question - Handling comparison: New C Class vs. E Class

I drive 2008 C300 Sport. I have many chances to drive 07 E350 of my friend's. Handling of E350 is extremely smoothly light and does not require much strength.

However, I feel like handling of C300 requires more strength than E350. I mean, even when E350 is parked, handling is pretty easy and light but as for C300 it is not so easy and light as E350.

Some guys, who are driving new C-class in non-US, are telling that there is no difference in handling feeling between new C and E.

Do I have to go to dealership to check it? I checked tire pressure but no problem.

handling overall? what conditions were you testing this under? highway or local ? sharp turns and tight cornering?

I found c300 to be more enjoyable than then e350 but I do feel more power at hands with the e350 (it is a 350...)
personally, i hate the way e350 feels. makes me thinks of driving a lincon (gasp!)

Precisely speaking, I was talking about steering wheel. I don't feel light like E350.

I assumed steering wheel should be felt not light like E350 becaus W204 is a kind of sport version.

When I am parking my car (W204), I don't feel light steering wheel like E350. I feel like I can make turn with an index finger with E350 but I don't think so with W204.

Please, let me know your think.

Yep, I feel the same about the pw assist as well. its over compensated, just like the lincons.

I currently have both, and I really like the feel of the C300 better, It feels more responsive.

Both E and C-Classes are very similar steering wise

the response time for the E is slightly more sluggish compared to the new C.(ie quick lane turns.)
I think that's simply because of the size of the car.

when parked or when parking the car, I think the E has more response because the car is heavier and the power steering is calibrated to its weight.
same thing with the S class. (very easy steering when parking)

exactly...

I used to drive a 1988 lincoln town car. i could drive that with only my pinky finger on the steering wheel.

My friend leases an 07 E350, and although its steering is obvously not as light as the old boat-like lincolns, it is very light in comparison to my 01 c320.

The OP seems to see this tighter steering as a disadvantage. I, on the other hand, like the sporty steering feel of my car much better than that of the E350's.

"To each his own" i guess

Welcome to world of sports or sporty sedans, the W204's steering is supposed to require more "effort" than the W211. Not sure what the problem is here??

+1 tight steering is not a disadvantage.... if your friends make fun of the w204, point them to the lincon dealership... :-)

Very odd.

Test drove 3 W204's. Test drove 3 W211 E350's. All of them '08s. All the W204's had "lighter" steering than any of the W211's. All were 4Matics. Bought an E350. Oh, all the W204's were "luxury" and all the W211's had the sport package (as does my E350).

Why would you test drive the 204's w/o sport and 211's with sport? that wouldn't be a good comparison

For extra light steering in you C class , you have to buy an option which in Europe costs around 315 Euros. Its called Parameter stuurbekrachtiging * In Dutch* . It makes the car streeing extra extra light. I have it and its worth it. On High speed it becomes normal power steering. On low speeds it becomes very light that I can use my index finger to make a U turn.

First of all, because I didn't like the interior of the W204 sport and prefer the luxury W204 interior. With the W211 I did like the sport package (inside and out). The designation of "sport" is completely different between the W204 and W211.

Second, the steering ratios of the sport and luxury are exactly the same - as with the W211. If you're talking about some other aspect, then fine. But if you're talking about steering "effort" and how "light" the steering feels then the comparison is just fine, thank you.

Light is good when parking but not good if too light... I prefer some feedback as opposed to too light like playing VR game.

(Parameter wheel ratification or active steering)
I like the sport feeling of the W204 the E class is bigger and more luxury sedan so the ride is suppose to be more smooth
