powerchip info

I recently got my car powerchipped and also changed my air filters, my friend who just bought a black c300 wanted to race me.(he is 100% stock). He has 20 'wheels and I have 19's so there should be a little advantage hence the powerchip, filters and smaller lighter wheels. We race from a Dig and a 20mph roll and a 40mph roll, I didnt pull on him one inch. I payed $700 dollars for my powerchip and it wasnt worth one damn cent. This is REC. to all people looking into a powerchip, NOT WORTH IT!!! unless powerchip can fix the problem of it producing no extra power at all, dont waste your $700.

Great info, I think the powerchip works better with AMG cars with turbo or supercharger.

No ECU tune is going to give a 220HP car the feel of a 300HP car.

Even in a 500HP car, the gains are only about 10-20HP.

This makes it still a driver's race with same model vehicles as vehicles from the factory can be stronger than others bone stock.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
ECU upgrades provide very little increase in hp and tq when you have a naturally aspirated (NA)engine. They are amazing on turbo charged engines. I had a chip installed on a NA engine in 1997, and all it really did was improve throttle response and, somehow, seemed to smooth out the idle. With an upgraded exhaust, it felt like it had a little more power. Normally cars are tuned to accept a broad range of fuel octanes and quality. Therefore, there is room for adjusments once the tuner knows where the car will end up and it can be safely determined what is needed. It is likely the tune in our cars is close to optimal leaving little room for improvement, but there is room. I could be wrong, but that has been my experience with chips in the past.

BTW, were you the member who was chipped early on and said the car felt much more powerful?

sorry to hear that. there are some gurus on here that know quite abit about why the ECU upgrades work better on turbo charged cars. anyone else out there have the same experience as the TS??

KuiDaCroat22 where did you go to get this done?

Did you not read the website?

From www.powerchip.com

"In standard form, the C300 3.0 produces 228 hp and 221 lb.-ft.

Powerchip has a range of chips to suit your car, which can increase it's power to between 241 hp and 246 hp, and it's torque to between 234 lb.-ft and 238 lb.-ft."

You were honestly expecting to feel an increase from 228hp to 241hp? That is a 13hp increase at the crank! The only way to measure such an increase is to do a before/after dyno. I don't think even Michael Schumacher would be able to feel a 13hp increase

Don't really have to be a guru to know why. Combustion engines make power by burning fuel, which is only possible with oxygen. Turbos increase power by allowing the engine to burn more fuel by supplying air at higher than atmospheric pressure (measured in psi). Stock cars are often set to very conservative psi's, which is controlled by the ecu, thus, increasing psi through ECU tuning allows the engine to burn even more fuel, increase power drastically. On cars that are naturally aspired, no such drastic gains are possible.
