DRLs usually runs on lower voltage on newer cars, especially the europeans. burning out the bulbs shouldn't much of a concern.
However, whether DRL are really necessary in all but low light conditions is questionable. As a policy in general, DRL wastes more energy and is less effective in united states region since we do not encounter low light daytime as much as the northen countries (like in canada)... IMO

Lights on
..I was wondering how many ppl have their headlights ON during the day. i know you can set it that way....
Many BMW drivers do this and I certainly wouldn't want to be mistaken for one of THEM.

On my BMW I have the Angel Eyes on as my DRL. I think they are great and do help with other drivers seeing you. I wish there was a similar option with the Merc. Maybe have the Eye Lids on during the day rather than the HIDS, which IMO are difficult to see during daylight hours.

Well the Bimmers with their trademark angel lights are certainly a looker. I do wish the Benz had something of it's own to rival. I don't think the eyelids stand up in this respect. They are hardly visible during day time as it's normal halogen bulbs. At night, when your have your beams on, they merge together from a distance. A thin strip of LED eyelid in a clear glass casing, like the 5-series, would have done the trick.

As you people know, daytime running lights are mandatory in Canada.
It makes you more visible and helps cut down accidents. It is a good thing going and recommend that you adapt the habit of turning on your low beams during the day.

If the government says so, it must be true! ![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)
All jokes aside, I keep everything on Auto, primarily because I'm lazy. However, I do clearly see the point that any light on, noticeable or not, would add to the visibility of your car to the other drivers, and thus contribute to my own safety. Headlight bulbs are relatively cheap and easily replaceable; my life is not.
Maybe I should have all lights on at all times from now on? Hmmmm

I would use the daytime running lights if it were just the center-most bulbs and not the HID lights at all time... Why waste the bulb?
