Door lock/unlock sound

Neither my wife not I are big fans of the "chirping" sound the C-300 makes when locking or unlocking the doors with the key FOB. There are no user options that allow you to silence this "noise" but my local dealer was able to silence them with the laptop computer by turning the sound level down to 0% on the "Warning buzzer".

Much better now

I suppose it's different strokes for different folks, but I like the assertive chirp. When an American car gets locked, the horn sounds and that can be loud and intrusive. Our cars just quietly chirp. Nice. And I like the assertive signal that the doors did in fact lock (or unlock).

Have you tried the siren? Hold the panic button and see what happens. Cool.

My 2 cents.

The panic siren IS cool. Our previous MBs allowed you to turn the horn off via the user programming interface but the new C does not allow you to turn off the Chirp. That seems like a silly omission on a feature that has been user controllable in the past. I believe that it was user programmable on our W202 ( 3 of them) , W203 and W211.

The flashing lights are all the feedback we need for confirmation. Old folks (like us) don't like all the noise

Weird. That "chirp" is one of my favorite features. As jstaneff said, I think it sounds much better than any other "honk honk!" or "BEEP BEEP" sound that other makers use for lock/unlock notifications. And many others have commented on how that difference shows M-B class. I wouldn't go that far, but yeah, I like it a lot.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
My Fiance is dying to get that beep or chirp deactivated but the dealership is teller her it can't be done.
The only thing the dealership said they could change is the volume for the panic alarm. Is this the volume you are talking about? If they turn the panic alarm volume down to zero will it stop the lock/unlock chirp too?
Can you ask your dealership exactly what they did. All the steps involved, that way I can tell my dealership what to do.

Thanks much.

I'm desperate here people. I need to find a way to turn off that beep. The car's life depends on it.

I think that the American keys have a panic button on them in the form of a red triangle.

No such thing here in Europe neither the sound when locking; just a turn signal flashing 2 or 3 times, I don't remeber exactily.

No panic button for the EU?? I have the beep beep beep when i'm locking and the beep when i'm unlocking. But i have the MB Alarm system so that's why i have the beeping sound i think.

So i dont have the panic function, think it's for the US only

Yesterday suddenly my alarm goes off, so i thought may be the panic button is hidden in one of the 3 buttons on my key, but not. So i dont know why my alarm was going off, weird.

Thanks everybody, it's clear...

I like it. Although the W204's, or at least mine, sound louder than other MB's that chirp.

I've too the alarm system (option code 551+817 for the siren alarm+882 for the inside motion detection) and no locking sound. Mind you, I prefer it like that

I think the chirping is enabled in certain regions. So you have to ask them to use the MB star diagnostic to change regions if you want the alarm to beep or not beep.

Your dealer (just like mine) is incompetent. The chirp setting is something that could be turned on / off (with the dealers star diagnosis computer) for the c class since 2005 and includes the W204.

Can you give me exact details please. What do I tell them to do? They said they already looked in all the menus in the computer and the off feature isn't there. I think they are looking where it is on the W203. Is it somewhere else?

OK.....first one to give me the correct answer for this problem will win $10 via paypal.
I will pay the person who is able to FIRST post the correct solution to this door lock/unlock beeping problem.
I will only pay said person after I bring the car to the dealership and the correct soultion works. If it comes back from the dealership still beeping then no payment.

Deal?

Who's first?

Starting now!

Sorry, I don't have specific details. On the w203 the setting is in the rear sam menu on the SDS computer. It gets set to either "USA" for silent or "USA with buzzer" for beeping. On the w204 I'm not sure if it's the same. I have heard of dealers setting the VOLUME to 0 in order to turn off the beeping. I'm not looking for your $, just trying to help.

I appreciate that. I was told by someone else that the volume set to zero might do it, but then doesn't that mean the alarm will be silent if someone tries to break in?
That sucks if thats the case.
