Why do people hate on Mercedes?
I never owned a Japanese car, as they in comparison seem boring to me and I do not want to drive aunt Nellie’s Camry, so I do not know.
However, seems somewhat doubtful to me.
And for the record, I do NOT hate MB, ………… Other than a full size American SUV, that’s all we drive and I never had any bad luck with the brand! Find a good, trustworthy Indy and you will have no issues!

Many of those complaints are based on mundane defects or easily-fixed oversights. My experience has been that people who are new to these "luxury cars" have a very high expectation of perfection. When the smallest problem arises, they run to file a complaint as their first order of business.
Cars from every manufacturer have quirks and problems - the issue is the consumer's expectation. The tradeoff is the quality and amenities. I used to have a Toyota that never gave me a single problem in 10 years but the driving experience left a lot to be desired
The stigma of driving a "luxury" car is another matter that has more to do with the individual's mental shortcomings more than anything else

That would probably be a Toyota Corolla. The most popular car in the entire world. Had one. It went through 5 owners and it might still be going. Wife refuses to get another one because there wasn’t much difference being inside or outside of it. It ran great. It beat the daylights out of driver and passengers on a 350 mile trip.
Kias are the greatest cars made. They have a 100,000 mike warranty. Chrysler had that in the 70s, too. Look where it got them. Heard something about a massive Kia/Hyundai recall because of anti theft system. But that doesn’t get in the way of getting to point B, so who cares. That’s apparently preferable to having an ESL fail in a 10 year old Mercedes.
Just saying…
And they don’t make ‘em like they used to, either.

The Corolla ran fine, got good fuel mileage, was inexpensive to maintain. And it beat the crap out of the driver, like I said. My wife's typical day is between 100 and 200 miles. She does not want to feel like she was riding in a stagecoach all day when she’s done. I made my monthly 350 mile one way trip in an E Class and got out of the car ready to do business and then turn around and drive back.
We’ve been driving MBs for decades. The only alternative I see that has the reliability that the consumer magazines think is deserved is to get a Bentley. They’re hand made just for the buyer. And they’re warrantied essentially forever. But the cheapest one is 20 times what I paid for my C Class. Not quite there, yet.
