There should be no smoke.
Write a letter to MBUSA, let them know your history with other cars and the dealership you are at now is terrible (why haven't you gone to a different one yet?). Also provide a link to the forum you're on and how your experience has been terrible. You paid good money for the car - at least give them an opportunity to do something for you. You won't get anything if you don't ask

blue smoke means coolant burning out right?? pretty sure it is. maybe I'm wrong.
All the cars that have blown headgaskets blow out blue smoke I believe.
But thats not a good sign, and I'd get rid of the car or get my engine replaced. keeping the car would just be asking for disaster in the future.

May I suggest A4, 328i coupe, A5
You got a lemon. I would REALLY hate it if that happened to me because I love this car so much :P (and have/will be waiting for it for awhile)
In your case, I agree completely with your point of view.

Document your services and their claims. Contact MBUSA and look into your states lemon law...you never know.

MBWorld Fanatic!
This seems to be a Lemon Law situation all the way. There is no plausable explanation a shop can give for having blue smoke at startup being normal...they are quite simply full of *****!

Hey Jim, if that's the case, would they need to replace the gaskets?? Either way, they should probably tear it down, inspect the cylinders and cylinder walls for issues and replace the gaskets and rings for good measure...it's gotta be leaking somewhere.

If I don't let the car run at least until the idle kicks down after a cold start I may have the blue smoke when I start it the next time.
Say if I back my car out of the garage to wash it and not let it run out for at least 60 seconds or so, It will make a pretty big smoke cloud next time I start it.
My remedy is just to let the car run for a while after a cold start = No smoke

There is no blue smoke that's normal in a new car. Could be a software issue or wrong oil / water in oil. Maybe a breather valve is stuck.
Possibly this car had some disasterous past experience in transit or at the dealer that's been concealed for you.
They start them at the factory, dyno them and release - would never be released with blue smoke issues.
Just trade it in and get an '09 or a smokin deal on a left over '08. The few $K lost is nothing compared to the aggravation and time you'll waste on this vehicle.
MB will address the issue if the dealer won't.

Just FYI (no more rants) official explanation of blue smoke on my paperwork:
"Suspect oil pressure is leaking down and there is slight oil blow by upon start up. Engine ay still be breaking in depending on how it has been driven initially. This is a normal characteristic of this vehicle."

Oil smoke
You have my sympathies. Seems like you have a Monday car.
Do not worry too much about the oil smoke on start up. Some V6s do this until properly run in. My one car did & one did not - both today use zero oil & display zero smoke. Benz use MOS2 coated rings running on alusil bores which are hell to bed in using modern lubricants. There are also occasions when the rings, which rotate constantly - end up with gaps semi aligned. If you run down a hill on trailing throttle & then accelerate hard does she blow smoke? Only if she does could this be valve stem seal related.
I recommend you drive the car harder for a while - use higher RPM & WOT more often. This should hasten bed in. If you drive gently you might end up with an engine that perpetually uses some oil. Watch the oil level & make sure it is not overfull. Make sure the car is absolutely level when you check.
I know you are mad & have every right to be. I know lot's of BMW & Audi drivers that have a lot more wrong with new cars than you are experiencing.
