DIY: Any type of led conversion
This is a DIY for those who want to convert their stock or hyper white 168/194 bulbs into Leds or festoons to Led festoons
Leds are a great mod for our cars but it is just not a plug in and play for most of us and will have problems such as:
But that problem is now solved with the help of resistors.
Resistors will stop all the flickering of the bulbs, Bulb out error code, and dim leds even when the car is off
Like every other DIY you are doing this at your own risk.
MBworld.org and I will not responsible for any damages done to your vehicle
But lets go ahead and start
Tools that are needed
- Flat tip screwdriver
- Torx 20 screwdriver
- Wire cutters
- Scissors
- Pliers
- Black tape
- Resistors
- Led bulbs
First thing you need to do is remove all the push pins that are holding up the trunk cover.
As you can see in the picture you can use a flat tip screwdriver to help you remove them
Now remove the rest of them
But that's not the only thing that is keeping the over on
Remove 4 torx 20 screws from the latch plate
As you remove all the screws it should look like this
Then you will need to remove the wires holding both the latch cover and trunk cover
Once the trunk cover is removed you should have this
Remove wires and splice them
Add the resistor to the harness
Use Black tape to cover up wire from any harm
*Make sure the resistor are not touching any wires or anything that can burn or melt!!!*
Put the trunk cover and latch cover back together
You are now completed with installation with your leds so give it a try

You're missing the umlaut. Should've at least added the "e" (schoen).
Sidenote: You're in Korea... but from America... and speak/know German. So what are you? A German-American in Korea? Or a Korean-American who speaks German? Or just an American who happens to work in Korea but has studied German? Or none of the above?

Well you have guessed right in one of the above. I have studied German and I happen to work in Korea. The rest is up to you
Germany is my next stop

Those are some nice LEDs. Where did you get them? Im sure the resistor can be found at my local radioshack. If my car wasn't at the dealer for the ABS light maybe I could have done this today on my day off, along with my springs >:o

I had my buddy order them from a vendor

looks like in the photo you used the resistor to connect the positive and negative wires together. I just want to make sure that's correct.
For some reason I would think to connect it in line with the positive wire.
I went to three Radio Shacks and couldn't find a 5W 100ohm resistor. A 5W 0.47ohm resistor and a 1W 100ohm resistor are the closest ones they have. Your best bet would be a specialty electronics shop to get the right resistor.

thanks got_thang, i used your DIY and got it to work perfectly. however, the damn led bulb melted out of shape... i wonder if anyone else have had this problem? it seems as though the festoon is too long and when i put it in the slot, there's a lot of force from the holder thingies.. and i guess the bulb got so warm it bent.
oh, and i couldn't find it at radio shack either, had to go to fry's. lol

Thanks for the info!
I purchased the resistors at a local electronics surplus store for a buck a piece.
I can't wait to install them this weekend!

Alright,
So I have a 20 pack of resistors I got for like $9 on eBay.. 5w 10ohm, but I want to install these for my front running/parking lights.
I put 6LED bulbs (2 bulbs per headlamp) and they stay on, even when the car is off. I was told by a member, I think it was the OP, to install this resistor just as shown in the first post.
My question is, will this resolve this problem for sure/
Which wires, and where, do I tap into?
I know its the parking lamp wires, but since there are 2 in each side, do I need to tap into 4 wires (+/-) on each side, or are they combined into one (this is what I think)?
Please let me know, I want to do this in about an hour or so, since I am doing this on a friends car.
Thanks for the info guys!

I know this is old, but today's current 194 led bulbs will still give the error if you don't have a resistor? If I put them in and don't use the resistor, I just have to ignore the warning light?

Same for all Mercedes (all other euros for that matter) you will get bulb out error for LEDs without built in resistors or externally wired resistors. If you plug in LED without resistors, best case you just have a warning light error, worse case you don't draw enough current for the feedback loop and your computer shuts off all power to that socket.
