People who think they have "great" oem systems used to get in my 03 Corolla and would walk out shaking their heads in disbelief. I used an Alpine head unit, MB Quart amplifiers, MB Quart Q series component sets and MB Quart subwoofers and would give them the experience of their Dull oem lives. I'm sorry to poo on the HK system- but I am trying to prove a point-Stock Sucks!
I replaced the stock tweeters with the MB Quart Q25 and even my wife said its an incredible difference.

I used to go in for the whole high end car audio, Nakamichi head unit, McIntosh amps Polk speakers so on and so forth. The car got broken into many time and the head unit would be stolen got to be a real pain in the a$$.
Making the head unit removable was the final solution but a real pain, I even tried a thing called the Blitz safe which pulled the unit into the dash and closed/locked a panel. The thieves ripped the dash apart. Security systems don't work worth a damn and aftermarket head units (especially DIN size) are designed to be easy to install, well if they are easy to install they are easy to remove. And I do live in a fairly good neighborhood all but one theft happened in a public place. I'll stick with the stock system and leave the high end audio in the house.

There are many ways to get creative if you want to spend the time and money. Plus how much bass do you want?
If you don't want a box there is plenty of room under the trunk floor to incorporate subwoofers and amps. This may require removing the spare tire if you want serious subwoofers.

its not standard in the US either, i dont know if he/she knows what theyre talking about. The stock system is a 100-watt 8 speaker system by mercedes' telematics company i believe. The HK system is over 400 watts and part of the multimedia package.
WISH there was a standalone option at the time of purchase, though i may replace the tweeters, b/c the stock system lacks the clarity I had in the bose system on my 06 A4.
And HK is not very high end like AkaSigFreak was saying. Try listening to the Bang & Olufsen system in the Audi A8, then you'll really know high end car audio

I love the V2's. When I first competed with my old car- I used 2 12" W1v2 and placed 3rd in SQ http://mobile.jlaudio.com/gallery/im..._2915_full.jpg JL Audio said I was the only person to EVER compete at that level with those subs and they were amazed. Even posted my pic on Their website (still there too). If you don't want the whole "box" thing- I have seen some nice fiberglass enclosures fitted into that cut-out on the left side of your trunk. You could wrap it if you don't want the flashy fiberglass look. I think thats what I'm going to do (unless I do a super shallow enclosure and use the new JL subs http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...hp?page_id=245)

If you want something that is easily removable, try and get a couple larger tubes with the built in amps. Easy to install to be removable and while it will increase the low end it won't compare to smaller subs in a good box with even a decent amp.
I have my setup from my ride two cars ago, custom lexan box w/ 2 JL 10's in a triple camber single reflex bandpass (wow I still remember that) and MB Quart separates sitting here in my room. I wouldn't mind installing it all but the wife has been enjoying the trunk space.

i wonder if it is possible to gut that screen area in the non multimedia package. it looks to be about the size of a standard head unit. i'd love to put a kickass head unit in that area with a flip out touchscreen. has anyone ever done this?
only thing is you'd lose the steering wheel control

I replaced the speakers with Infinity kappas and they were a huge improvement for the standard head unit (the OEM speakers are just plain aweful). The kappa tweeters even fit in the OEM plastic housing. You, will, however need a sub.

Around $100 for a good set. The Dynaudios I was looking at were around $250. I like my MB Quart Q series I installed but I want something different.
