Dreaming of a new CLC...
MB-UK link to build your new CLC Coupe...
http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/cont...html#chapter=1
Just don't select the nav or linguatronic options... currently unavailable, page is broken so it makes you "reset" ie: start over.
Mine is black on black... pano, 6-speed, v6, sport, 18" amg, bi-xenon, (optional!!) airbags.., TPMS...
now if I could just get my local MB dealer to take my order...

However, until MB makes them MBUSA, I have been thinking:
I want the grille. I want the extra reflectors on the hatch. I want to move my badges up to the little hatch window like the CLC.
What do you think I can get a body shop to rig this for me?
Getting grey market isn't that interesting because I hear they don't have as much body protection as US?
I don't know if that's true. Is that miles per gallon for real on the CLC?

1 Imperial gallon = 1.2 US gallons
Thing with gray market, you'll have a hard time registering the car since it technically have not passed US crash standards so its not DOT approved.

..............and no warranty.
CDI220 gets either 48 or 43 mpg overall....
They list it this way...
47.9 (42.8)
is the 2nd number US gallons perhaps?
I just returned from a camping trip. I fit 2 bicycles, tent, stove, food, air mattress sleeping bags, ice chest, etc etc...+ me and my gfriend....
I think my next car will be another 2002 C230 Coupe with lower miles...nothing else like it. Just take everything off my car and move it over.
It sucks the resale values are so low...then again, it's awesome since when the time comes, I'll pick up a low mileage 2002 for what 5 grand?

you can't really do a direct conversion off of Uk to US. The EPA and european test standards to receive fuel ratings are completely different.
Just like the vw jetta blue motion diesel gets 47 city and 72 highway with a combined average for 60mpg on the UK standard.
The EPA gave it a 30/41mpg rating.

When we got our first chance to sample the new Volkswagen Jetta TDI last summer, VW of America CEO Stefan Jacoby indicated that the new compact diesel would achieve mileage in the 40mpg range. More recently, VW has been indicating that the Jetta TDI is capable of up to 60mpg on the highway. The first of the new 50-state legal Jettas were recently spotted on their way to dealerships and now the EPA has published official mileage numbers. Unfortunately, wrong those numbers don't quite match up with what VW has been claiming.
According to the official listing at FuelEconomy.gov, the 6-speed manual 2009 VW Jetta TDI managed 30mpg on the city cycle and 41mpg on the highway cycle, making its combined number 34mpg. Now those numbers are certainly respectable and nothing to sneeze at, but they fall well short of VW's predictions. Nonetheless, the TDI rates 41.7-percent better than the 2.5L five cylinder and 36-percent better than the 2.0 TFSI four cylinder. The big question is what will a diesel Jetta do in the real world? According to VW spokesman Keith Price, Volkswagen's diesels typically do better in real world mileage than the EPA sticker values. VW, you know where to find our garage so we can judge for ourselves. Thanks for the tip, Conner and Jason!

I had a Jetta two door before my MB excursion the last 13 years.
Even though my Jetta was German, not Mexico built, it was a manual and had a lot of bux put in it. Made me switch to MB; I figured, why not get a car I want if I'm spending that much on upkeep. It got like 28/32 mpg.

then they should base it on the w204. the C-sports coupe/CLC market is very limited since in US people don't like small cars and they have better choice now since A3 became available at cheaper price tag. the GTi is also there to take away the market. In Europe, the A and B-class sells better than the sports coupe if I remember correctly. Not to mention there's the 1-series as well.

The Gti is more of a civic si, cobalt ss, mazda speed 3 competitor.
Mercedes already has Smart to furfill the role of the A-class and B-class.
Mercedes has a hole in there line up compared to there competitors. They can just market it as a more luxury and comfortable competitor to the 1-series.
Audi's are usually considered just cheaper bmw's with nicer interiors. The A3 suspension is also pretty stiff.
I think the only thing keeping the car back right now is exchange rate.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
I'd like to get the seats into my car.
"The Gti is more of a civic si, cobalt ss, mazda speed 3 competitor."
Maybe to those who just want appliances. Those others can't compare to the GTI.

Apart from the sexy looks of the car, I wouldn't consider it because it uses the old W203 chassis.

So BMW, Audi and Mercedes customers would not look at a VW.

Sooner or later one of these high profile custom shops will graft a CLC front to an older C coupe. If Benz figured out how to do it, it won't be long before someone offers the European parts in the States and the custom shops go crazy. Just reminds me of how they swap out the front clips of the Chrysler 300C and the Dodge Magnum, pretty much the same concept here.

Im no fan of the CLC's cus they just look to soft. They dont look agressive enough for me. I think this car would be better as a 4 door Wagon but it has to be styaled to look strong like the look of the A3. Nice stright lines that make the car look level from front to back. This car in my head would look awsome lowered a bit with slightly wide wheels.
