Valve Stem caps

Hey gang,
Well you have corrupted me LOL. My first mod really since i got the car. They are solid brass and suprisingly heavy, feel almost like a wheel weight, I don't need to get them rebalanced now do I?

Mine are the same but black and I don't feel a difference in the balance on either my original wheels or the aftermarkets that are on it now.

Yep, I think these cars at least deserve decent valve stem caps.

My decision was easy as one of the OEM plastic caps was missing.

That's actually a real possibility I think. Stop by a balancing shop and pick up some of the weights they use... if they're about the same as your new caps, then you probably do need to have it rebalanced.

word of warning...if you're going to park in some ghetto *** area for more than 15 minutes, I'd take them off and replace them with the originals.

Get them balanced and that way we will all know.

I actually stopped by the service shop today at lunch and asked them about this cause I was picking up another set of caps (black ones...grew tired of the AMG ones I originally bought). They said there is absolutely no issue with the caps on. It's an authorized MB part and weight has been tested to make sure customers could just put them on without worry. They do have decent weight on them though, so not sure if he's just towing the party line or what.

TPMS?

Keep in mind that anyone can post anything which does not make it true. These little caps have no effect on balance or the TP system or the phase of the moon.

I've used a set of these (on two cars) for maybe five years. About $15 per set. Now I have two because somebody stole the other two while the car was at the dealer. There goes another fifteen bucks. Or, I could buy three gallons of gas.

Azn-C300, you thinking of going to Fletcher-Jones? I'm in search of a new home dealership. I dunno about you, but WC MB was treating me like a cold piece of shat, so pretty much cut ties with them. I hear Fletcher-Jones is mod-friendly, but then the sales guy there that was trying to sell me a car last year was an idiot. So, I'm thinking of Oakland M-B, but... don't trust their techs there. Mad drama. I need a dealership. Soon.

And where do you go for Chinese food in SJ area? Or even in Oakland area? Gotta hear from the Chinese peeps which Chinese joints are good. No offense intended if you're Taiwanese and don't like being called Chinese.

The Mercedes caps weigh 7.5 grams.

Most wheel weights start at 5-7 grams and go up considerably from there.

I have never heard of needing rebalanced wheels from stem caps and I'm sure being a Mercedes factory part this was taken into consideration as mentioned. Move on and enjoy the upgrade.

That's good info. I never thought I would consider valve stem caps an upgrade LOL.

what the heck did you say to get you on probation??

Yeah, Fletcher Jones was recommended by the owner of Sonic MS as mod friendly. Since I'm not buying, their sales guys can all be idiots for all I care. Yeah, I read the issues you were having with the WC location. Don't really want to take it to Oakland.

As for chinese food, there are like tons of places so kinda hard to just list them. Milpitas, Fremont, Saratoga, and Mountain View are generally where I go. And yeah, I'm not so sensitive that being called Chinese instead of Taiwanese gives me issues :p My friends always rib me about the whole "one china" thing.
