Weight Reduction - Battery, Spare Tire, Etc.

I had these parts out over the weekend doing some work and thought I'd share in case anyone cared.

OEM Battery = 47.2lbs (aftermarket lightweight = 15-21lbs)
Spare tire = 25.2lbs
Tire Jack and Storage Tub = 8lbs
OEM Mufflers = 46.3lbs combined(according to Remus)

If a person had a big plan in mind with possibly titanium exhaust and x-pipe to replace resonator at least 100-150lbs could be shed without affecting the integrity of the car. If this is the case the weight reduction would be worth mentioning. If only 1 or 2 of the above was removed then not much point IMO and leave all alone.

good info on weight though....I had debated clearing out the spare tire, but the prudent side in me told me not to.

Standard size. My last car had a 4 cylinder motor and the battery was 40lbs.

I'm not sure why OEM batteries are still so big. I ran a small 11lb battery in my last car mentioned above and never had an issue even on 0 degree winter days. The OEM battery turned the car over faster but the lighter battery didn't really struggle either.

I wouldn't waste my time with just a spare tire removal as that weight loss is to minimal but added to a much bigger picture I can possibly see it.

I was stranded in my last car with a flat and no spare so I am hesitant to do it again. The stubborn side of me says "what if I can only lose 70-80lbs without comprising the cars integrity and that extra 30lbs put's me at the 100lb weight loss mark".

It's more of a mental thing of all or nothing. I'm looking at a simple goal of 50 extra hp and 100-150 less weight and no one would be any the wiser if they looked at my car. I'm all about the OEM look with fit and finish. To me the car would then be a big improvement performance wise over stock without getting carried away.

Do what I'm doing and keep your girl on a strict diet Good thing asian girls are small.

Yeah, just the spare itself wouldn't do much. I combined it with some other things, but then when I decided to put the spare back in, the savings from the rest of the stuff just wasn't significant without also dumping the spare as that represented the majority of the weight.
