IPOD Amp installed under warranty!!!

I finally took my car in to the WA Mercedes Fife Dealership after researching about the IPOD amplifier...i prepared myself so that I wouldn't take the word "NO" it not a warranty item from the service rep.

I went in there after calling MBUSA...customer service says that it depends on the dealership if they will warranty it or not. I was very skeptical at first....cuz i originally purchased my car from Cali and moved to WA....i didn't think the Fife dealership in WA would warranty it and do it for free since i didn't purchase my car from them.

I went in, explained to them that the IPOD sound quality was poor, I also told them that I call MBUSA and they said to me that there was a Mercedes Service Bulletin about this...customer service look it up, saw the service bulletin...said NP, we'll take care of it NO CHARGE...(I was like HAHAHA i did it!!!)

I just picked up the car today...IPOD Amp installed and the sound quality is awesome!!!

I'm a happy camper...wish all of you luck on this one!!!

That's good news. Did they show anything about service techinical bulletin in your service report? My dealer did not do that for me when I went in for 3K first check up. They said I did not bring my Ipod to check. Did you bring your Ipod to service? I also gave them the Ipod amp p/n 204 870 39 94. I want to try again with the info from you.
Thanks.

IPOD

yeah it showed up...customer rep printed it and gave it to the tech...luckily they had the part instock....i didn't bring my IPOD in, but tested with it later....and it worked perfectly.

You should bring it in and demonstrate it...but i guess after reading the bulletin, the problem (poor quality sound related to the volume) i had described was exaclty in the bulletin...they just installed it under warranty.

Here's the Bulletin: B-P-82.85/597
Part installed: 204-870-39-94

Hopes this help.

Take your receipts and the bulletin to the dealership or contact MB directly. I had a similar situation with my last car (Chrysler Pacifica). I paid for a repair that later became a recall/tech bulletin. Chrysler notified me and I submitted my receipts and they sent mea check for the full amount within a few weeks.

Just checking -- this is still non-MM package vehicles with ipod right? My volume is slightly lower and I would like a boost in it too, but it apparently isn't "as" low as others...

Will this be a problem on the 2009's or was this problem resolved before production started?

I have an '09 on order... Just wanted to know if there might be any problems I should watch out for, or if it should already be fixed on the '09's

so basically the sound without the amp is just as good as with?
my ipod output is slightly lower than the radio.
it doesn't bother me, but if the amp improves the actual sound of the ipod...

still interested to have some feedback on above.

sound in my car is good, but can not play some songs/album REALLY loud.
(unlike radio & cd)

This is mentioned in the mercedes ipod manual as being normal,
but it's a bit annoying nontheless....

I think that is as good as it's going to get. I had the Ipod intergration installed as part of my purchase(it wasn't on the car I purchased) and I thought I needed them to install the amp because I can't get it to really "bump" like when I play cd's. When I reviewd the work ticket for the installation it shows the amp part# as being part of the installation. It is loud enough really, just not loud enough to upset my neghbours when I feel the need.

The service bulletin is only recommending the IPod Amplifier for vehicles with Audio 20 (Basic radio) If you have MultiMedia radio then the amplifier is not recommended.
