can IPOD be added as a dealer installed accessory?
I'm looking at a 2009 at a dealer now, but it does not have the IPOD pkg - which I want. The salesman says it can be added as a dealer installed accessory? Is this true, is it just a cable from the head unit to the glovebox, or do they have to pull apart so much of the dash that doing this at the dealer would be unadvisable?
Thanks.
Thanks.

they charged me $700.00. Didn't seem like a good price, but I had just got the car for what seemed like a good price, and knew I NEEDED the Ipod intergration. Now that I think about it the price is probably ok, as I realize it is more work to install on a car already built rather than during the build process.

700? Wow good price compared to what Merc Benz of Chandler was quoting me. They told me 425? for the part and another 450 for labor. Needless to say I laughed when the service adviser told me that.

The ipod kit for the W211/219 was about $350 from MB and I got it for half that price. I'm not sure about the amp portion but any reputable installer could handle that also.

All the cars coming into dealer stock seem to only have IPOD from the factory if the car also has the MM package. So if you don't want MM, but want IPOD, other then doing a factory order, you are stuck with doing it at the dealer (DIY aside).

My C300 came with the base Audio20 system and the iPod kit as a $350 option. I made them throw it in for free or I was off the the Lexus or BMW dealer...they did...
I love the iPod integration kit and use it everyday. I use it with my first Gen iPhone (it keeps the phone charged) I find it very easy to use once I realized that you need to use the "end call" button on the steering wheel to navigate to the submenus on the iPod...
After I had read about some dealerships adding an amp to keep the line balanced with the radio and CD player I went to the dealership and inquired about doing this for mine under warrantee. They were happy to order the part and install for free...it now sounds great and has the same level as the other audio inputs. It's great to have the readout in the instrument display and it never fails to have a huge WOW! factor with passengers...
If you are ordering a new car I high recommend the factory iPod Integration System...If you can get them to throw it in for free by all means do so but even at $350.00 IMO it is well worth it...

a quick question: what happens if ur iphone is sitting in the glove box connected to the ipod integration kit and you get a call...how do you answer it...
Via the blutooth or you plug it out and answer it?

How difficult would it be to reroute the line from the glovebox to the center console? It seems like the total distance from the radio woudl be similar but the location would be much more conveinient. Anyone try this yet?

On the side, does your glove compartment comes with a light? Mine does not, but it has a useless air-con blower.

you can do either. The music is automatically muted (it is actually more like a quick fade-out) and you hear the phone ring and see the incoming number. You can either answer through the bluetooth by pressing the green answer call button on the steering wheel or you take the phone out of the glove compartment and answer with the handset but unless you needed to take the call private I can't imagine why anyone would do this. The other option is to ignore the call by pressing the "end call" button on the steering wheel...after the call the iPod fades up right where it faded out before the call...
