Error codes: post yours!
Hello,
After finding out about the hidden diagnostics menu on the thread "W204 secrets thread...", I decided to explore all the menus on it and found an interesting one that tells you what errors codes did the car generate since the beginning. I'll later post where exactly but I found this menu extremely interesting if one's concerned with the overall reliability of the car.
I found out in mine that I had two errors that occurred at around 800 Kms and 5500 Kms and that concerned the external fan. I must say that I never noticed anything wrong with the car all along.
So please take a look in yours, if you've the COMAND screen, and post it here before it's too late. These errors are probably erased when you bring the car to the normal maintenance service.

All the cars
record the history of the codes to an extant. If the code went pending and did not repeat due to various factors it would be cleared after a set amount of drive cycles. No need to worry if the dealer is doing nefarious deeds to keep it from your view.If the problem exists and goes active you get notified and repair it or get it repaired. No hidden agenda of reliability or anything being to late.If the system gives you a clear check engine light solve the issue and keep enjoying the car.Errors can only be cleared from the dash display, you can't erase them nor can the dealer to keep them from your view if a condition exists that triggers a problem. The dealer either fixes the issue or tells you it is a temporary condition from lets say a loose fuel cap and sends you down the road. You need to worry less and enjoy more

Pulling the codes

I have no idea what happens in Europe, but here a tech would always look at stored codes to see what warranty repairs he can perform. The dealers love warranty work because it means more shop orders.
The reliability of the W221 S-Class and the W204 have cut down on shop warranty work orders by as much as 30% at some dealers resulting in layoffs.

2008 Calcite white C350, Command system, 3M clear bra, tint 30%
I have the same external fan fault code. My dvd/cd changer won't accept any discs and i see a fault code for the that in my menu too.
The engine light came on recently, so i believe its the dvd/cd changer thats causing the engine light to go on.

Yes, either it's the dvd/cd changer or the external fan. These are the two fault codes in the menu. I will be bringing it into the dealer and will let know which one triggered the engine light. It was just coincidental that the light came on when my unit broke.
