I wouldnt park that far out there. To a crook, could look like a nice target, no one around cus its so far. Plus he can see anyone coming.

i've actually thought about that too, but i figured a car theif would steal your car regardless of where you park it, close or far, but door dings usually only occur when you park close to other cars up front. besides, if someone stole my car, fine, ill have insurance buy me a new one, but door dings, OUCH it hurts and its too small and too much of a hassle to get repaired. also, a car theif can only steal your car once but door dings are forever a threat.

Nothing funny about it. It's the herd instinct.

But, with some effort, it is possible to avoid damage. My Porsche, 25 years in my possession next week, has NEVER had a door ding nor have it's bumpers ever been touched by another vehicle. Never was a commute car, I will admit.

Does the car you drive matters? If I drive a piece of beat up junk and park in two spaces, would you think I feel that I am special? Would my piece of junk be likely keyed? Just curious..

My paranoid parking preference:
1) Far, far, away - the walk will do me good
2) Next to an island - but not with a walkway
3) Next to a nicer car

It's kind of sad because my parking habit is so ingrained, I even do it with rental cars, then stop, reverse and squeeze into a closer spot.

Nice to hear that others are just as careful with their cars; well, except for Britney....

Man guys I couldn't help but stumble on this. Anyway I had recently got my 08 c300 of course you know I park away from everyone. And I clearly analyzed the parking lot to make sure no one would be an idiot. Goes to show I come out of Best Buy and there is like some sort of big white delivery van parked next to me. Now I didn't get mad until I realized that this jackass not only parked right next to me but purposely over the white line I mean way over. I had to get on the passenger side just to get in the drivers seat. I mean God must have been on this guys side because I was going drop the righteous hand of God on that mothersucker (exuse my language)if i saw him.Goes to show people in this world are nothing but haters and you have to deal with them. But I tell this guy was so glad I didnt find him. Anything like this happened to you guys?

I did stop a guy in a van from parking that close to me once. He was too busy yeppin on the phone to notice. When he got out he noticed my car apalogized several times and moved it. It doesn't always have to be intentional.
How about this angle. Whenever I visit a new place I always park next to a more expensive car. Makes me feel a bit safer in case somebody wants to either break in or steal my car. Of course I still make sure there is plenty of room.

Went to Home Depot at lunch today. While in the store, someone parked one of the hourly rental trucks within about 10 inches of my passenger side. I was livid. We were however passenger side to passenger side so it appears nothing happened but come on...how retarded can someone really be?

Careful what you say to her. That kind of stuff eventually finds its way back to you.

ahah bologna! no just playing thats messed up. you should just repark your car to the parking space to your left/right (wherever shes not) and leave a gap. see what she does on the next break.

I parked at a haunted house last night and thought I got a great end space. By the time I got out, the line had wrapped around the building and I was pissed to see it running right past my car...crap. Anyhow, it looks like there are a few finger prints but no scratches. Should have just shoved it into some crappy space in the middle this time I guess.

The other side of this is that the car is more likely to broken in to, vandalized, or stolen when it's on the edge of the lot.

Britney
I didnt know it was her until I read her name... she does look like a man.

I hate it when that happens..
Its like they do it JUST to **** u off or to look at the car.
its not like they choose a spot around me out of 50 open spots available they choose the parking spot RIGHT beside me.I guess theres no way to avoid it.

sometimes i dont mind when another nice car parks next to me because I figure they care about theirs as much as I do.=\

This sort of goes along with this thread...has anyone else noticed Benz must be using recycled soda cans for door panels these days? I have had many of Benz cars in the past and I never once had a door ding. My new C has two and I seem to be adding them monthly. I haven't really changed my habits, I make the extra effort to do everything mentioned here, parking a decent distance from other cars, parking in nice area's ect. Just seems like these panels are really flimsy, one would think they would beef them up a bit seeing how they removed the save your butt bump strip, it may not look the prettiest but it worked! (Thought I would mention that the two dings I have would have been prevented by the bump strip as they are in that general area where bump strips are applied)

Unfortunately it may be that people on average just seem to be a lot less considerate these days. It's sad but I have heard of so many people catching someone giving them a door ding and the response is "yeah, so what"... also unfortunate is that I would probably resort to violence with a response like that...not good either…
