The carfax report stating my car was in a wreck ended up costing me abouy $700 at trade in. Considering I only got $2800 for the car, that was a lot. My wreck only needed a front bumper and headlight...no other damage at all and it cost me 20% at trade in.

You should not have accepted the dealer's low-ball offer. For $2800 I would have walked out on the deal and given the car to a homeless person so they could live in it.

Everyone checks carfax now, even carmax killed me on the value. Retail was only about $4200 with trade value at about $3500 without damage, wrecks, etc. It at least covered the tax, tag and title. Not too bad for a 7 year old Mazda with 112K.
