How different is it to add a AMG badge mod to paint the front AMG style, add the replica AMG wheels, add AMG style roof/trunk spoiler, etc?

the difference is that all those things are exterior add ons, but the main reason an AMG is an AMG is the hand built engine as myinternetsucks said. putting some exterior add ons doesnt change whats under the hood and putting an AMG badge on your car is lame if its not a true AMG.

would you be ok with a somone slapping a rolex badge on a wal-mart watch? it just comes down to how you represent yourself. if you choose to try to make people think you have a nicer car than you have that is fine with me, but i am still going to call you out for being lame. if you want an AMG, work harder and get one - dont slap a badge on the car you have now.

But they don't have an AMG badge. Like i said before, I laugh at those who have a TRD sticker all over their Corolla when all they have is a TRD style exhaust tip. Do as you feel, we're not policing, just laugh at the knock-offs.

The way I see it is that you guys are acid for not being able to buy an AMG. I don't think anybody is pretending to have anything. IT IS JUST A BADGE!!!!. And it looks good with the other one on the other side. Same with the clear markers instead of the orange.
At least that's the way I see it.

But you are pretending....a badge is there to signify what you have. You don't have an AMG and you put on an AMG badge, therefore you are pretending. You want something on the other side to balance out the look? Go get something custom like what Ron Jr did. That watch example was a great one. If I have a cheap Casio watch and I put a Rolex bracelet on it, that doesn't mean the watch is a Rolex. However, if I put cheap plastic straps on my Rolex watch, it's still a Rolex. See what I'm getting at? What makes a Rolex a Rolex is the body and working gears inside the body. What makes an AMG an AMG is the engine and working gears inside the engine. After all....AMG motto is and has always been "One man one engine"

i guess there are just two types of people around here. some think its ok to pretend and feel like they have to portray themselves as something they are not to feel accepted. while other people are comfortable with what they have and dont need to put on false fronts to impress people.

I drive a C230 right now but i am only 26 and have been indepadent since 18. one day i will have a killer ride but i am proud of what i have right now and dont need to put on false fronts for any reason.

If you are simply going for a symetric look, just remove the C280 and the AMG...I will likely debadge as I really don't like the look of chrome lettering on one side and nothing on the other.

You guys sound like the type of people that are defined by what you drive. It's okay to be in search of higher status. If we all can say that AMG cars are truly defined by their engines (we all know this fact), why give the guy a hard time over a badge??? How about write a letter to the magnificent AMG folks to get them to put serial numbers on the AMG material (badges / exhausts / body kits) that matches the VINs of cars designated by the factory. Maybe the guy shoud get a citation? How dare he commit such a crime?!

It appears that owning an authentic AMG is the holy grail of automobile ownership. Not saying it isn't, but if we all know that what matters is what's under the hood, why let someone else's "individually purchased badge" get you all excited? That's not directed at anyone in particular...just the general AMG "jock riders" around the forum. All of them.....

I have to say that I love them all, they're really nice cars....but the badge will not make him any faster or help with value. The AMG appearance package that Mercedes adds to sell otherwise bland looking cars will not enhance your driving experience either. As a matter of fact, seems that all AMGs appear to be depreciating at an alarming rate.

I still say the car looks pretty damn good....It's a very tastefully done car. The wheels are nice also. I think that's all the guy was trying to accomplish.

I've got to sign off now to let my wife know she needs to get home ASAP!! She has a C300 with that "unauthorized" AMG body kit and wheels! I hope she hasn't gotten a ticket already from the poser police....
