I actually like the new generation E-Class much better than the current generation.
However, looking at the E63 AMG, I think that maybe the AMG version should have used the coupe model.

I actually like the 211 alot more in that pic^ 
W212 just looks a bit redic and trying slightly too hard. Doesn't have the concise and effortless design of the W204 even, IMO.

I actually like it (the white photos anyway). the tail reminds me of the beautiful A5 I saw yesterday. Same tail assembly.

saw the car in person @ NY auto show pre-view on thursday. E63 Looked good, E-Coupe looked really nice, over all E-class is OK not that great.

I honestly think the w212 looks ugly...on the side its shaped like a camry...from the back possibly a hyundai or infiniti...and from the front maybe a lexus GS? M-B designers are doing what BMW did with bangle 6 yrs ago 
...i mean look at the 211 it looks perfect out of all the e-classes and now they have to go screw it up

the front end is very nice and definitely an improvement (with exception of the whisker shaped LED lights).

When new C (W204) came out, people told exactly the same thing, like ugly, Japanese look, not MB style. People need some time to grow on new look and after that people start liking it. Somebody said about C class, it is like Shrek, than more I watch it, than more I like his look.

If you really look at the Headlights, you can see the inner and outer lights are not really in any complete alignment or cohesive harmony with each other. I've noticed this a lot from the Pictures out on the car. Another fussy design element from the car IMO.

I like the front headlights MUCH better than the current rounded ones. I never liked the round headlights personally.
Also, I think the AMG version should have been based upon the coupe design.

Also in agreement on the AMG version being based on the 2 door coupe. Guess they ran demographics to see who's buying what.

my pops recently got a 650 and it's a bit worse...
not at all as bad as my c class tho...
i will take a nice design over something as small as cleaning brake dust every week or so.
i mean the new E is ok... the designers seemed like the pulled from a lot from different cars... rather than making their own style (like bmw)...
and like someone said... it may grown on you.. yes... but when something has to grow on you ... you know it's not THAT nice.

I love this new redesign as it brings the E Class in line with the rest of the models...

Exactly what I've been saying. The new E is just a big disappointment to me, which sucks as I really lust after it's technological advancements.
If I were to be in the market in this segment in the future, and if the next 5-Series follows suit with the curvy and more timeless and less gimmicky new 7-Series, I may have to jump sides.
