KW Varient3 Coilover

Ive been looking into purchasing a set of coilovers for my c300. After calling KW numerous times and asking if the kit will work with 4-matic they keep saying yes. Online it says "v6 3.0L RWD". The people whom I spoke with said there are no side notes saying anything about all wheel drive so It should work. I dont want to end up getting my car torn apart and having this not work out...so does anyone know the correct answer?

thanks in advance! Chris

H&R will have their coilover set available for the US in December. They have separate applications for RWD and 4-matics. Rough estimate pricing I've heard through my dealer to be about $1k less than KW.

how much realistically can you get for the oem sport shocks on ebay?

Highly doubt you'll find a buyer for those on ebay. You'd be better off just keeping them for the eventual part-out.

meaning the new shocks that are installed will eventually go bad and need to be replaced?

how long would this happen if you are gentle with the car?

10 years I am guessing?

I know somewhat the difference between springs and coilovers but really whats the difference in comfort/quality? noob question i know.

No, I mean after X many years, you decide to move on to a different car, so you're selling or trading in....most people try to restore back to stock and sell off the mods in pieces.

Well, depending on what coilover setup you go with, you'll have different comfort levels. From what I've heard and experiences, H&R coilovers are more comfortable for normal daily city driving. KW is nice cause of the bump and rebound setting on their coilovers vs the preset dampening on the H&Rs. Also KW is better at anti-rusting than H&R, but I'm in California so don't have to really worry about that.

All in all, dollar for dollar, I think the H&Rs are more worth it over KW. That's not to say I wouldn't rather have KW over H&R, it's just I wouldn't want it for an extra $1k.

Cool! They have actually had a kit for a few months. I called H&R and was advised, however, not to use it on the US models.

Well...I spoke with both H+R and KW(again) today. KW continues to tell me that the variant 3 coilover for the w204 chassis c300 will work for BOTH RWD and AWD. They said there will be no issues whatsoever if the kit is used on a 4-maitc application. When I spoke to H+R they told me that all they have available is springs and that they haven't even planned on bringing in a c300 to fit coilovers on it.

Yeah, they released it a while ago, but only for European models. Soon soon

Coilovers are the entire spring/shock combo. Engineered to work together.
When you switch out just the springs, the OEM shocks together with your aftermarket springs basically don't "match". This causes a bumpy ride and cambering of your tires, among other things.

If you have the $, go with coilovers, HR or KW - either coilover setup will be significantly better than just a spring swap.

just feels like a waste of my factory sport suspension which was probably $2 grand factored in to the price of the car... which i could sell it for half, than I could justify easier

I just found out that K-Sport also makes some coilovers for the W204. On the site it does not say if they are for RWD or if they will work with 4-matic. Does any one know?

K-Sport are cheap china coilovers. Wait for H&R which shouldn't be much more expensive.

haha yeah that's what I thought. I contacted H&R last week and they told me they havent gotten a c-class in for coilovers and then dont know how long it will be until they do. I am going to wait around no doubt, but if it falls through I guess Im going K-Sport.
