That was by older cars that you have to go for an oil change after 1000/1500km but now with newer cars (engines) your first stop by the garage is 20000KM or 25000 km if you have synthetic oil.
I was also surprised, but my service manager told me that the FIRST oil change is in 1 year or 20.000 km...
Don't know how it is in the US but here in Europe this is the story

I know it is overkill, but have the dealer change the oil and filter every 5k miles. I prepaid for this when I bought the car. Was a great deal since I plan on keeping the car many years.

I will be changing once year or every 10K whichever comes first. Seems like a good compromise between my desire to change it every 3K vs the 13K recommendation.

i am going to change mine at 10K my old Honda was every 3-4K, but now things change and its recommended to change the oil 13K or 1 year.

I just stick with the computer, it has sensors and takes into account your driving habits to determine the life left in the oil. The computer is set for 13k mile intervals, but it goes down from there depending on short trips ect. but is set up to not exceed 13k miles.

A service
According to the owners manual and my local MB service writer, the system is simply a mileage and date counter and does not take into account driving conditions. There are several systems that do that but apparently not the C Class. Guess that's why we have a couple gallons of synthetic oil in the pan....
So, I stopped at my dealer and asked about turning the warning off.
They say it can only be done with the tech's service laptop which they did without a work order. I also asked about removing the center vent section so I could complete the backup camera installation. The tech did that the correct way without using a pry tool or damaging anything.
I slipped him a twenty.

Not so. Just time and mileage. Matterafack, my 7600 mile car has been nagging me for two weeks that my A-service will be due on the car's one year anniversary. And I had changed the oil myself at 5000 miles.

A-service nagging
You don't need a laptop to turn that warning off. There is a thread here that I just used last month when I got my A service done and they forgot to reset it. It involves going into the service menu and checking ok to service A, quite simple but kinda scary if you haven't done it before lol.

1. put the key in .
2. Turn it once.
3. Press and hold the accept call button and then after a few milli seconds press the ok button on your steering wheel.
4. you will get in the secret menu.
6. look for service options in this menu.
Here is the video.

don't really give a damn about when to take it in to dealership.
I always have the oil changed every 5000 miles and also for new cars always change out the first oil+filter before 3000 miles. I just had mine changed at 2450 miles on the car ($75 with OEM/Mann filter and 0w-40 mobil1).
