That filter

I purchased the cabin air filter below from parts geek, but it was slightly larger than the space allowed, which meant I have to smush it down to make it fit. Pain in the a$$ nonetheless.

It's hard to imagine why you had trouble getting the filter in since it only goes in one way. It's true that holding it in while sliding the retaining bracket is not easy.

Had you bought the MANN filter from Autohausaz.com, you would have paid $17.53. I paid $18.80 several months ago and now the price has dropped.

This supplier and their prices were mentioned in an earlier post.

Is the filter in the W204 downstream from the fan meaning it filters the air even when recirculate is turned on? That would be a very good upgrade from the flawed system in the W203 which allowed contaminants into the system when recirc was enabled.

The filter is situated such that recirculation refilters the air.

Also be sure that you get the better quality filter as it has the carbon particals that'll take oders out of the air.

Thanks RLE. I can't believe the cost of postage from the USA ie US$61.63 , $75 for two which makes it better!! Adding windscreen inserts may make it worthwhile !!

I need some advice, please

Can anyone steer me to a illustrated DIY guide to change the combination (cabin) filter on my C300. I have seen the Mann photo, but it is blurry at best. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can anyone tell me what the screw head is for opening the cabin air filter? Also if I'm not mistaken it's the same screw head used to open the air filters under the hood, yes?

I never knew I should attend a course to be able to be a cabin member on an MB. Sometimes a course could be useful to better understand other people in the cabin.

Just got done replacing it in mine. What a massive PITA! I've replaced cabin filters on a number of cars. This was by far the worst. Whoever designed it should be shot. I am never doing it again. I'd rather pay someone to do it.

Agreed. Can't imagine why they had to make it so hard unless it's to drive business to the dealership.

I'm due to replace mine again. Not looking forward to it.

I came across a Filterheads.com Youtube video on how to replace the cabin air filter for the W204 C300.
Hope this helps.

Its hard to see in the video above but there is a fold in the right part of the glove box cover where the lower a-pillar cover is inserted, it is not easy to reinstall the cover and get it back right without first removing the a-pillar cover.

When we replace cabin filters on a B service we always dismantle the door trim and the lower a-pillar trim to get it right, that also makes it easier to remove the glove box cover.

So I followed the procedure in the video for my 2010 C350 and was able to replace the cabin air filter and reinstall the glove box panel without the need to remove any trim pieces around the glovebox panel. It took a couple of minutes but it eventually went back into place. One observation on the video is that it did not mention the screw head type. I also noticed a posting on this thread asking about the screw heads on the panel. A Torx T20 size screwdriver worked for me to remove the 3 screws.

Old thread but seems to be the one that gets the most traffic. Here's what an 8 year old cabin filter looks like. I use the system primarily in recirc mode :

Thanks for sharing, but let's hope you don't plan to advertise your car online anytime soon since this clearly indicates you do not follow the maintenance schedule.
