Cabin filter change
#5
Sweet. I was thinking about this the other day.
Does anybody else notice that the "recirculate button" always refreshes to "OFF". Specifically, when I hit the recirculate button, then turn off the air, and turn it back on, the recirc is off.
Thought to myself "the cabin filter will probably wear faster than my other cars."
Anybody know the part number for the OEM cabin filter?

To access the filter, you must remove the panel forward of the glove box (three Torx bolts) which in my car was pinned in by the lower side panel which comes out after peeling off the door gasket. Far from user friendly but since the filter won't have to be changed nearly as often, I can live with it.
I think the filter is changed at the B service.

Filter interval
The car has 7800 miles but you must understand that miles traveled is not the only indicator for change. Rather, it is the hours the system has been inhaling outside air plus of course how clean is that air.
My car will be one year tomorrow since delivery and has not been on any long trips but has been driven around town nearly every day and our air is dusty in certain areas.

Filters
I think the filter might last 20K miles or so but I'll look at it again when the mood strikes me. The part number is on the filter which I failed to write down but I do know I will not pay dealer prices for it or the engine air filters which I found needed changing at about 16-20K miles.

I can't find it in my 2008 C300 maintenance manaual and thought I'd ask it here.
According to the first post in this thread, there's a filter under the passenger side dash.
There is also a filter in the engine compartment right next to the firewall.
This is a U.S. model and that might cause the design to be different.
Is one considered the "combination filter" while the other is the "cabin air filter?"
Without taking my dash apart, could it be that if you have the filter in the engine compartment there wouldn't be one under the dash?

There is only one cabin filter in the 204, its called A212 830 00 18 and is placed under the glovebox as in the instructions from Mann.
The air intake box in the engine bay is only a water trap air intake, no filter there.

Sorry man, I must be losing it.
I was dead certain that there was a filter in that box and had to actually open it to convince myself that there wasn't one there.
Thanks for saving the day......again.

Filters
Illustrates how these things get lost. I posted over a year ago that the box over the battery is a water separator. Good thing it's easy to remove to find out there is no filter there.

Check Engine Light and no Fan Blower
I installed both an engine and cabin air filter, now I have a check engine light and the no air is coming out of the vents. I hear the fan inside blower, but nothing is coming out. I reinstalled the engine filter making sure there are no leaks, but the CEL is still on. I think the dealer has to reset it, but I can't figure out why there is no air coming out of the vents. Help!

If the cabin filter slid into place, I can't see why you wouldn't have air moving. Maybe remove and reistall again making sure the slides/clamps are sealing off the filter properly?

I agree with c300sport. The CEL wouldn't remain on and deny air coming out if the problem is gone and it just needed to be cleared, there is something botched with the install, most likely in the engine bay. I doubt anything with the cabin air filter could cause this.
Double check all connections, and if your car is still under warranty - act stupid and bring it in. Just say, wtf is happening? lol
Have you tried pulling the CEL from the memory bank and finding out what it is? Any autozone, pep-boys or similar store would do this for free.

Do you know if there is a filter made for the european version of the c350? I just popped off the box and noticed the blower blades have a layer of dirt on them

Filters
There is NO filter in the underhood water trap leading to the heater fan.
And by the way, I just looked up when I last changed the cabin filter and find that was 8/9/09 at 14711 miles. Now, fifteen months and 9100 miles later I am going to change it again because I'm getting too much dust inside, collecting below the instruments and on the wood around the shifter. I also see I paid the crazy price of $62.37 from the dealer (with my MBCA discount, yet) vs the eighteen bucks and change from autohausaz.com. I never use the term stealership but in this case, well..........

I just did this last night and it was a royal pain in the a$$. The three screws come off easily enough, but it's much easier to remove the entire bottom panel to get to the cabin air filter than to simply 'pull it down'. However, getting the bottom panel out is very tricky, disconnect the two light sources and then wrangle it out of there.. I purchased the cabin air filter below from parts geek, but it was slightly larger than the space allowed, which meant I have to smush it down to make it fit. Pain in the a$$ nonetheless.

I bought mine from Autohausaz and it was OEM Mann filter and it fits good. Yes removing cover is difficult, there is a latch hooking to blower, need to push that latch from sqare hole under the cover.
