If you keep a good layer of wheel wax on them, you should be able to wash them with regular car wash and avoid the hard stuff.

thanks all
if I use car wash soap & water, would it scratch the finish of the wheels?
what do you guys use to clean the wheels? I see at a store, they have a cleaner which you can just spray on and hose off? Is that safe for the wheel & tire?

If you wash your car on a regular bases you should be fine using just soap and water ( That is all I use ) I do suggest that you use a different bucket with soap and water and wash mitt for the wheels then for your car. So this way you won't rub brake dust residue on the paint of your car.

The car wash soap is going to be very easy on your finish. The spray on, hose off stuff is ok but you will always have to physically rub the finish to get all the grime off. PolePosition is right though, use a seperate lambs wool or microfiber mitt for the wheels and the paint as well as a seperate bucket or change the soap and water in between.
